Goldeaglefan
There were extra bleachers on both sides for the SC game and they said they were staying all season. They weren't big though - just enough for the bands from both schools to sit on. Every game so far this season including Monterey has been standing room only on both sides according to one parent I asked.
eli
I am assuming that Upperman feels they the players coming the next few years to hold their own in the upper Cumberland. Everyone else seems to be rebuilding with young players and will remember upperman having York and company in the games late to pad their stats. Most coaches teach their team to act like they have been there before and try not to embarrass the other team or themselves by running up scores for stats. Scoring 60+ with a running clock is running it up by any definition.
Goldeaglefan
Upperman played subs the final quarter of the first two games. The sc game was close right up until the last half of the fourth. As for memories - maybe Upperman has one. Don't recall DeKalb, Smith or Livingston caring if they ran the score up in the years that Upperman was barely fielding a team. Maybe the Bees seniors are remembering those games that went the other way the last three years.
TigerPride23
DC loses three seniors and is starting multiple freshman. I think we will be able to handle upperman in the years to come. I also don't agree with the running up the score. Last year the people that are starting this year that were young then started after halftime of almost every game. The years before that we scored while tryin to run clock. You can't help if the other team is bad enough to allow that. You're not going to take knees in the third quarter.
Goldeaglefan
Exactly. So if Upperman's jv team scored on Gordonsville and Monterey in the 3rd and 4th quarter, that wasn't running the score up. They know they are losing 19 seniors this year and are trying to let the younger kids get as much playing time as possible. York did go back in for one series in the Monterey game but it was because a late hit took out a knee on the jv quarterback. The very next series, they put another kid in who supposedly had never taken a snap at QB. That's not running up the score.
Goldeaglefan
Btw, just looked it up. 2011 scores - Uhs 14 LA 38, Uhs 0 SC 45, Uhs 14 DC 63. 2012 scores Uhs 14 LA 55, Uhs 0 SC 47, Uhs 7 DC 47. I can totally see how they might have gotten the idea that the goal is to beat everyone as bad as you possibly can. That doesn't even take into account the horrible beating they took in 2010 when they only had 19 players.
DCTIGERFAN
Yeah you cant blame a team for scoring when they got backups in. Its only running up the score if they game is out of hand and the first string is still in scoring. Your not gonna tell your backups to go in and try, just dont try real hard..we wouldnt want to score again.
eli
Conner York was in the game in the 4th against Gordonsville and scored the td that put them over the 50 mark. That's running it up and Gordonsville is not in the region so there was no payback for previous years. Moose is a class act and did not deserve that. Keep that in mind come next year, I'm sure he will
Goldeaglefan
Really? Because I saw Todd Stanton playing QB in that game. Don't know if the JV ever scored but they did play. Maybe they were scared Gordonsville was going to make a last minute comeback since their players had spent weeks tweeting about how they were going to kill Upperman and it wouldn't even be a challenge for them. Upperman loses everyone this year, so I'm sure Gordonsville will repay the favor next year.

I dont know if Vick is a starter, but the Stanton kid is not.
UpperCumberlandMan
And keep in mind, No way UHS is even close to as good this next year as they are this year. DC, LA, YI, and MC will all be improved next season. But,the Stanton kid looked good as a backup qb and is back. The rb thats has like 475 yards in 3 games is a soph. And in the program is listed the 340 pound noise gaurd as just a soph. The Withers kid at left tackle listed as 6'6,250 is listed as a jr. They will not be as good, but no more 1-9 Upperman in the future under current staff. Specially with the big jr high being built on campus and the big additions being added to the school to rezone more Cookeville kids to go to Baxter schools.
