South Pittsburg Football 2013

I think a darkhorse choice in the South Pitt search could be Cody Finley from Cheatham County. He is a very good football coach who could win "big" at SP. The Pirate Nation would instantly see why he is a highly respected head coach in the midstate area who has been very successful at a place, Cheatham County, where success was very limited prior to his tenure as head coach. I have always felt that if you gave Finley "equal or better" talent than teams he plays then you'd see a great football team. He was unbeaten and coached a team that averaged nearly 45 ppg. and rushed for 5,000 yards in 13 games (3 different backs over 1,400 yards) this year. The talent at SP is much better than that talent and the schedule isn't as challenging (nobody on SP's schedule could beat CPA). I think Finley deserves a look.

Are you joking? I looked in my Murphy Fair book and this Finley mans record is 55-54. He has a .505 win percentage. That means he only wins 5 out of 10 games. This Finley mans playoff record is 4-12. My Murphy Fair book says this Finley man has never made it past the second round. We do not need this Finley man to coach our boys. Grider was a pretty good coach, but we need a real good coach like that Rankin man. That Rankin mans record is 331-65. That is alot better than Griders record. Grider better interview that Quarles man, that Rankin man, and that Bowers man. They are all real good coaches and have won a bunch of championships. You think im joking but im not.

Finley is 68-55 in 11 years at Cheatham County with 8 trips to the playoffs during that time. The Cubs were unbeaten this season. The talent that Cheatham County has is not exactly the greatest for a school that's been a 4A and 3A sized school over the years playing much better competition. I would challenge any coach to accomplish what he has done at Cheatham County.

Charlie Daniel won 4 games in 2 years at Cheatham. He went on to win 80+ at Dickson County.

Rick Butler was 18-15 in 3 years at Cheatham. He went on to have an impressive coaching career.

Terry Arrington (who had success at Friendship & Kenwood) won 23 games in 3 years at Cheatham.

Tommy Tharp went 36-30 in 6 years as a head coach at Cheatham County/Sycamore.

Coach Finley's 68-55 mark is very impressive. Anyone who has played the Cubs over the years knows that he's a winner and runs a winning football program.

Keep reading your "Murphy Fair Books" and making posts without having true knowledge.

Coach Finley, you bring up some good points. If you get that job you will have our full support.

Can you confirm all of these have applied? I see two "in house" names on this list. Can you confirm either of these even applied for the job? If you've got some info let's hear it please.

    • While one may be inclined to perceive this narrative through a lens of fiction, it behooves us to recognize the inherent robustness of its credibility. For those seeking veracity, the surest path lies in direct engagement with the primary source. Let us adhere diligently to the matter at hand, focusing our deliberations on the matter of paramount importance: the identification of the individual most suited to assume the mantle of head coach. I invite introspection and discourse regarding not only personal preferences but also the criteria defining merit and suitability for this esteemed position.
    • If it’s one single kid then that argument would make sense. He’s essentially had to replace his entire coaching staff in the first two seasons, and like it’s been pointed out only one left for a better job. The two most talented players in the area both left, and number of others are actively trying to leave, including the head basketball coaches son. Also, the rumors of financial problems and over spending by Jones. Unpaid bills, missing money, inability to fundraise, has the boosters sick of being hit up for money.    Im saying that is the definition of a poorly run disorganized program. If you want to pretend it’s a well oiled machine maybe you should take your maroon glasses off. All I know is I wouldn’t let my boys play in that kind of mess.
    • It usually gets tiresome when posters play characters on the board, but I must admit that I’ve found some humor in wingback’s take on this art form.  However, his rundown on the potential candidates seems as much fiction as his persona!
