Maryville does have a couple who play both ways, just not every down. You have to have your athletes on the field to make plays. Period!!!

I understand that,But going into halftime up by 30 or so was the time the back ups get there reps and playing time.Thats when you find those GEMS that have something when there put in the lights.I understand now how football works now a days,Its has to do with who you know or who your parents are.And it was like that alittle when i played but its gettin worse.I feel if the young men put in the days and hours of hard work they they should be rewarded for it.And ive seen were some guys have opened up when they had the chance. You can disagree with me or agree,But i firmly believe that what ive posted here is 100% true. This is HIGH SCHOOL not college or the pros.Playing more guys can only help D-B in the present and the furture.

I'll have to say this on coach Clark and his staff and being fair. One of coach Clarks own relatives didn't get much playing time a few years ago.He had to put in the time just like most kids before his number was called.I would think that if " who you know" or "who you are" had much to do with it,coaches own close kin would be playing from day one.I never talked to coach Clark a whole lot other then " small talk " when my first Indian was coming up.I'm nobody special and just work shift work like thousands of local guys.My kid earned the right to play by working hard on the field and in the weightroom. His strength was the reason he ended up at defensive end. He done whatever they needed to help the team, just like so many players have in the past .If a kid works hard and has a good attitude at DB "and can play the game",his time will come, unless the team is just loaded several deep at every position.

Wasnt aware that DB couldnt call to see if any teams from 7-AAA are interested. D-B is the program that has to get better to compete for State Titles, Not teams like Oakland, Blackman, Siegel, Riverdale, or Smyrna.

Those teams are not going to travel to upper East Tennessee. Not when can pick up a good game within a 50 mile radius. I guarantee you that.

Oakland will have to travel to Memphis twice and Chattanooga over the next 2 Years. Siegel will have to go to Ooltewah and Science Hill. Riverdale just got done playing a home and home with Brighton and Blackman will be playing Bowling Green (KY.). As a district, were already traveling over the place. I would rather do it in a place that is steeped in tradition like Oak Ridge, D-B or Maryville

I agree with you,And what i was meaning was HIGH SCHOOL BALL on the whole.Im nobody to be 2nd guessing coach clark. His record has proved that.Im just sayin if the young men put in the time to practice in the heat of summer and football season and work out then they should have a chance to play. All im tryin to say is,A school that has almost 2000 kids going there should not be having guys playin both ways unless there one of the few gifted players that are D1 or D2 type kids,Thats when i understand the 2 way deal. But thats just my thoughts on it.Agree or Not.

I remember one spring practice there were about 140 kids that wanted to play. They had the " spring drills " in january. That's when you really find out who wants to play.I'd love to see every kid that goes out get a chance to shine on friday nights too. It's a fine line between getting your team ready with depth and rewarding everyone that has worked hard.Too much one way or the other can bite you. It's a hard thing as a parent to see your kid sitting on the bench if it's because he is young " or " really good and the game is out of reach. We all want to see junior playing and that always makes it personal for the close friends and family members. On the 2000 students.DB still needs to get all of the very best athletes out for football from that amount of kids

I don't know how many teams in the state will ever get on a year to year level with Maryville, and that's where the road will go every year to reach the final four. DB has been right on the door step a few times and had a couple of real good chances under coach Clark before Maryville came into 6A.Is that good enough for everyone or even the coaching staff ? No...All they can do is what most of state's schools do,keep working and hope everything falls into place at the right time.

And that means getting more kids in the game,Having more depth and that would give alot of the starters some rest and give them more of a push going into the playoffs.

And batman i want you to tell me why couldnt D-B be on the same level as maryville yr after yr?Is the talent over in blount county that much better than Sullivan County and the City of Kingsport? Its like everyone around here puts maryville up on a PEDESTAL.There good and one of if not the best in the state. But what ive seen is teams actted like the game is over before it gets played.JUST SAYIN,And just wantin to see what you're reply is to what i ask you!

I keep seeing these post refering to teams "around Knoxville" and teams in the "Knoxville area". These teams that DB needs to be on the level with. Who are these teams? DB has played all the best 6A teams in the "Knoxville area". With the exception of Farragut DB has owned these teams. And DB has a better than 50% win ratio against Farragut. The only team DB is not "at least" on the same level with is Maryville, in Blount County. So in the future lets just say DB needs to get to the level with Maryville.
