I'm in agreement with most that Donovan does a pretty good job covering the state. I'm a Memphis guy and I think he covers the Memphis area pretty good for someone who is based out of Nashville. I find mistakes as well but he is far from a joke. His articles always have his email at the bottom. Hit the link and let him know about the mistakes he's made. I'm sure he would appreciate it.

Actually he does a heck of a job! YOU try gathering information on all these schools. It Ain't Easy, trust me, I Do! There aren't a ton of resources out there and I value the work he puts into it. Often the "players to watch" are provided by their own coaches. If little Johnny wasn't listed for your team, perhaps you should ask his coach why he wasn't.

Keep up the good work, Donovan! More of us appreciate it, then not.

Donovan Stewart is the best at what he does. Far better than Murphy Fair, his book this year was less than impressive.

Nobody puts out consistent content about high school football across our state year-round like Donovan. Nobody puts out a preseason yearbook covering the entire state like Murphy Fair. Obviously they don't get it all right all the time, nobody does.

I for one enjoy reading both. Yes I know more than they do about teams in District 8-AAA, since I see them every Friday night and read about them in area media. But these state-wide writers help me learn about out-of-district opponents and such.

Thanks for doing the good work Donovan and Murphy. Keep it up.

Hear the Tullahoma Wildcats every Friday night on Tullahomaradio.com.

I din't call him a name, I said hes a joke & I'm referring to his articles not him as a person. I don't know him. What I do know is that if you can't get enough information then you shouldn't write about it. Also, he doesn't have to cover the entire state he can stick to his area because he probably knows that best & let the sports editors in their areas cover their districts.

If you said "he's a joke" that would indicate you were referring to him. If you were referring to his articles, you should have said "his articles are a joke". So yes.... you did call him a name.

Donovan does a really good job in covering the state. It's not as easy a job as some of you self proclaimed experts make it out to be.

And for the record, I expect Campbell County to be a much improved team this year. They showed signs last year of real progress. Their record may not have shown it in the end, but they did getting better as a program. I don't know if they will finish third, but I do expect Campbell County to make a real move upward in 2013.

Donovan and Murphy, Chip and all of the guys do a great job on covering the entire state, pre-season is always about speculation because there have been no games played yet...they are they to inform, speculate and incite discussion...that is what they get paid for, to get people and fans involved, I know all three guys well and they are great at their jobs

I just read the article: Covering The Entire State Part VI: Class 6A Capsules

http://www.examiner.com/article/covering-the-entire-state-part-vi-class-6a-capsules?cid=rss

I think it would be very hard to cover the entire state and I applaud him for doing it. What jumped out to me right off the bat were basic fact check mistakes.

Dobyns Bennett Indians

City-Kingsport

County- Hawkins

Science Hill Hilltoppers

City- Johnson City

County- Carter

This is easy to check with a quick Google search.

    • I have no idea who your team is, but Memphis and other Shelby Co. schools have hardly made a dent, if you’re talking Game 15 appearances. Outside of a couple by Whitehaven, I can’t recall the last team in a final.
    • Robbed you guy at a chance of 3 state championships. You never kne, sond best team in the west my have beat you also, but you sure deserved the chance to play um.
    • Eagleville also loses Brown the catcher, Lamb CF, Mclemore RF (Heck of an athlete) and Drew the 1st baseman. They will be young.
    • Good thing we aren’t in Florida then huh? It would benefit a ton of the smaller schools  that don’t have the pools of kids to choose from! They should start by policing Shelby County like they do the rest of the state! Something has to change though and TSSAA knows that!
    • Correct, you can whimsically be fired in coaching. A coach that has tenure can stay on as a teacher if released from coaching. If you don’t have tenure as a teacher, you can fired without cause. Your last year as a teacher before tenure is earned you can be fired, but must be given cause. A tenured teacher can be fired, but it is a long hard process requiring the 3 D’s…. documentation, documentation and documentation. I have released 3 tenured teachers, 2 with PHD’s. However, teacher contracts had and still have clauses that state you can be fired for a variety reasons re: being arrested, public drunkenness, inappropriate relationships ect.
