Week 1: Hampton @ Oneida

Figured I'd pull the trigger a little early again this week. Hampton comin' off a tough loss will come to The Reservation with redemption on their minds. Oneida comin' off a thrilling OT win at the Tiger Den will try to avoid a "hang over" week. A long bus ride and playing at The Reservation are marks in the negative column for the Dawgs but do they have what it takes to over come that? Or will they roll in and show the Indians how it's done on our own hunting grounds?

Thoughts and predictions?

Hampton will have to clean up alot of mistakes if they want to hang with Oneida. Its all curable stuff so thats a positive. Lots of respect for the Injuns, they play the game the way its supposed to be played,PCC. hopefully well give you guys a competitive game. No predictions from me. Just hope for a hard fought njury free game.

No doubt it will be hard fought, & I'm with you on the injury free part. Pujo, I know y'all's program far to well to "hope" for a competitive game, we know that's comin'. We've got some things that need shoring up before Friday as well, that's part of early season with inexperienced teams. They've both got a game under their belt. It's amazing what improvements kids can make between week 0 and week 1. I've saw it time and again & I'm sure you have as well. I'm bettin' folks get their money's worth. Speaking of that, you're gonna make the trip aren't ya? If so, hang out around the scoreboard before or during pregame if you have a chance & I'll look ya up. Be nice to see a few of y'all again.

Not many of us left, just a couple here and there, most of 'em have stopped after junior graduated and a key T player transferred to Texas! Not really any new blood comin' in from up this way. We're a dyin' breed on the T seems like.

Not sure I've recovered from last night.  With such a mistake prone game under our belt it will be easy for the coaching staff to shore up on our collective efforts.  Two interceptions, lost fumble, and the slew of penalties that cost yards and drives....the staff can at least harp on getting the victory and not giving up.  Such a gutty win and some excellent obstacles overcome against Rockwood, who is always such a solid team.  Now for Hampton....which gets all the respect from Kazza Khan.  Don't care if they are fat, short, or ugly......they'll hit you in the mouth and help you up. (sounds like Oneida)  Pujo, your hard to miss in the KC Gear, but I'll be all over the stadium working in some capacity or another.  Your good folk....can tell by the last time I saw you up there in our last "ice bowl".  Thankfully it be a little warmer this go round.  Two one point games....your ticker OK?  If we do that again this week, my BP will surely go up a notch.  Can't wait for this one to get here.

Hats off to the Indians last night on your win against our boys! It was a great game on both sides! I think Oneida rolls in this one!

To quote the WECO boys "if you didn't like that game then you don't like nothin'"

Absolutely what small town football is all about. Great atmosphere, huge heart and effort on both sides, defensive battle all night (I'm actually one that prefers that to a shoot out), ups and downs for both sides, a nail biter ending, and both teams meeting at midfield for a post game fellowship with both coaches addressing each team and staff, then ending with the 2 teams joining hands for prayer. How could you not love that one. I know that had to be a tough loss to swallow with the amount of heart and effort RW gave, but those young men showed tremendous character last night. They lined up, shook hands, & looked their opponent right in the eye as they congratulated them. That speaks volumes about them as young men.

    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
    • No my fight, but ... if they were already college-caliber prior to transferring to BHS, and they already had FBS interest, and they end up at an FBS school, how did Bearden do anything for them?
