How much $ does your team spend including quarterback/booster club?

There is a big difference between size and public/private, but lets air it out...

 

How much does your school spend/raise? What do they buy?

 

Local public raises $25k and school budget is $15k. Local private raises $75k -football budget $100k+...

Putnam County provides no money except coaching supplements to any of the schools here. All funding is through gate/concessions/fundraisers.

Private schools are all self funded. But most pubic programs are also self funded except for the field, bleachers, and a few coaching supplements. The diffrence is like comparing Tenn Tech ( public) and Notre Dame ( private). Average income of the parents of most public student atheletes is probabaly 1/6th of private school parents. Most public schools don't have big boosters like say UT has filling the pockets of thse public programs. Nothing at all fair about private schools playing in with the public schools.

If your going to bring up privates you need to add open zone tutition and magnet schools in my opinion they have a bigger advantage than most privates.

Bigger advantage is questionable, but the point is how much is spent on football and does that play a role in consistent success.

Schools will spend what they have and what they can raise...period. Public, private, zoned, open-zoned etc, all are limited by the funds they are allotted and what they can raise in the form of donations. Are private schools better fund-raisers? Some are as they have a base of more affluent boosters. Some publics are just as lucky to have wealthy supporters.  Many smaller schools are just in areas where that type of fund raising is nearly impossible. Some just don't bother. But to answer your question, yes. Money provides better equipment, facilities, coaching, trainers...the list is endless. Those things contribute greatly to a team's success. But it's not just money the booster's provide, it is support. These are the parents, grand-parents and other family members along with long-time team supporters who provide pre-game meals, tail-gate fundraisers, t-shirt sales and programs. They will help a kid get a new pair of shoes and make sure he gets a ride home from practice. If you look at the programs that have the strongest booster support, they are the ones who not only pack the stands for home games, but pile into busses for long road trips and can feed 200 people on Saturday morning at the pancake breakfast fundraiser.

Cheatham County schools only recently got some coaching supplements in line with their other rural public peers.  That and paying the utility bills is about all the financial support they provide.  I've been involved with booster clubs in 3 sports for multiple years and football, basketball and baseball will fundraise in the $20k-$40k range and have been responsible for keeping their fields and facilities maintained in addition to raising money for equipment and uniforms.  It takes a lot of dedication and year round work to adequately fund a program and you have to maximize your resources.
