New rules for Referees in High School and College

The new rules, officals in (high school and college) are calling this year STINKS. Games are lasting 45minutes longer, for what a free throw contest. Saw a game last night 79 free throws. No idea of the foul count but it had to be way up there. Saw a college game lasted hour plus longer. WHAT THE CRAP IS GOING ON. They appear to be trying to get offense back in the game but free throws are not offense.

Defenses are going to have to go to straight ZONE to survive.

If this keeps up games are not going to be much fun to watch this season.

I hope they continue to enforce the rules as the season progress.  Teams that grab and hand check have really hurt the game.  Coaches and players better adapt quickly.

Agree with Metroman, tired of seeing wrestling matches in the post and the slap and grab that prevents you from getting to the basket.

Love them calling the rule book as it is written. Now if they will work on calling traveling.

I agree as well. Maybe now, more coaches will focus on defensive effort more so than offensive.

Love that they are starting to enforce the rules after years pushing and shoving being the norm. It's about time!

What I have seen, they have been calling it both ways so far. But I have notice that they call it closer in the start than the end.

Basketball is to be played with a certain finesse, if you want clutching/grabbing/pushing that’s called football. I hope that they continue to enforce it consistently and not “pick & choose†or stop calling during district games or in the postseason.  If you don’t want the other team to shoot so many free throws then stop fouling it’s pretty simple!

 

 

 

 

 Guidelines to Enforce Illegal Contact - When contact occurs that affects the rhythm, speed, quickness and balance of the player, illegal contact has occurred. When illegal contact occurs, fouls must be called. Officials must not refrain from calling these type of actions that create an advantage for the opponent. Illegal contact must be called regardless of time and score.

 

 

Bottom line IMO is a skilled offensive player should be allowed to play the game the way it was meant to be played!!
