BuckLateral
The Father Ryan wrestling schedule shows a home match with Christian Brothers this Sunday, 11/24, at 2:00 pm. It is the season opener for Ryan. It is shown on the Bros schedule as well. Is this match still on? I have not seen any chatter on this board so far about it and wondered if maybe it has been changed. What about it GHouse? Can we go over to Ryan and see these two teams wrestle on Sunday ? Will they be wrestling starters or will the Godfather and Head Bro play things close to the vest and not reveal who might be at what weight for the season? Wonder if Ryan and the Bros are trying to recreate the old Catholic school Sunday matches that The Fake Purple Irish ( the TFPI, as Bearcat Brown used to call them) and The Green Irish of Notre Dame High School ( or EFT, as so named by Bearcat Brown) used to have back in the 60s and 70s, where the two teams would go to Mass together, beat each other up on the wrestling mat, and then have dinner together. It would be interesting--and good for wrestling fans --if this were to become an annual season opener for the two schools, alternating between Nashville and Memphis. If it is on, I'm going with TFPI in this early season matchup. Edited November 22, 2013 by BuckLateral
ScottOsters
The battle of the two Purple Mist programs is absolutely on for Sunday at 2 pm at Father Ryan. The intent is for it to become a season opening home and home alternating series going forward. Will be great to see two strong programs in this opening week match. Come on out to see the new Patrick Simpson Wrestling Facility at FRHS and see some good grappling. Three mats.....varsity....jv......middle school. Big fun. The purple Bros graduated many but are sure to be solid, and the Purple Irish are looking to avenge their last match from last year's DII state duals. Great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. ghouse
Should be lots of good wrestling between varsity, JV, and about 40 middle school / youth matches. I am sure neither line-up will look the same by the end of the season but it is exciting to see these two teams setting up a long-term plan to do this every year.
