South Pittsburg vs Union City (Moore man vs. Bowling man)

Here's a simple definition of open zoning for you, any public school student that goes to a public school different than the one for which he/she is zoned.  Sometimes (Greeneville and South Pitt) these students may actually reside outside of Tennessee.  Others (Alcoa and Maryville) these students reside in surrounding counties.

LoL....We know what it means...We have kids in Union City that went to school in the county system and county kids, including SF kids that are at or went to UCHS...When the county decided to consolidate their junior highs they made the brilliant decision to put the two largest right outside the Union City city limits....BTW, one of UCMS' prized football players, the brother of UC's all-time leading rusher, is playing football at OCCHS....The reason given for UC not playing OC anymore was that OC was getting UC's players to go to Troy...

is this just a coincidence:  South pitt good-marion co bad....union city -good - obion co bad...adamsville good- Mcnairy co bad,

Partner..UC is not "always" good...Not, going to the state championship game every year good....It's been since 2009 since we were there and 2005 since before then....It runs in cycles....

There are a lot of idiots in this world.  Congratulations you appear to have avoided that level of achievement.

no i dont have it backwards and you make my point.  Send most of the kids to obion co,. keep the enrollment down at UC then send all football players to UC , get an unfair advantage in single A. Play a team that does the same thing while all those that do it fair are at home watching.  who says cheaters never prosper.  Stay up on your high horse SWO and act like this isnt happening.

I'm sorry Bigdan, but you are mistaken.  The football players at UCHS have been students in the UC school system since they were in elementary school.  There are 37 total on the football team.  Out of that 37, 5 did not attend school at UC Elementary School.  2 of the 5 started school in the UC system at UCMS in the 6th grade (both of these moved in UC from out of state).  The other 3 students began school at UCHS as freshmen.  One of them is a freshman now, and the other two are Juniors.  All 3 came from elementary schools in the OC system.  All 5 elementary schools in the OC system are K-8.  The two Juniors are starters on the team now. We do not purposely keep enrollment down for football purposes.  We are a small school system within a large county.   In fact, the UC school system has many students transfer to the OC school system each year. OCCHS currently has three players on their football team that played football at UCMS, but moved to OC their freshman year - one of them is a Junior and the other two are Sophmores.

In addition to a successful football program, our other sport teams do very well from UCHS.  Our girls basketball team won the silver ball last year at State, and our boys team did well in the playoffs, too.  Our baseball team lost the game before advancing to State last year.  Our tennis team made it to State, but did not win.  Our band program is award-winning and won several band contests including the Bands of America in St. Louis this year.  As far as academics, we do very well, too.  Our graduating senior class last year was in the top 7 school systems in the state of Tennessee for achieving high ACT scores.  (The senior class had less than around 120 students)

The UC school system is very small, but we accomplish great things.  Our school motto is Excellence - Our heritage, Our committment.  Our students work hard in everything they do.  We do not cheat to prosper at all.

Gibson Co. Pioneers2009 and 2010 AA Girls Basketball State Champs70-1 record in 2 years

Do you think this big run in girls basketball was not related to south gibson opening that very year moving you down in classification yet maintaining same athletes. You choose to be clueless i choose to acknowledge the facts.

All of our players came from Rutherford, Dyer, Yorkville, Spring Hill, or Medina before South Gibson was built. We do not have open zone now and our girls are still the cream of the crop in the county. We never have girls come play here from Trenton, Milan, Humboldt.... This argument holds no argument.... And also, we won our championships in AA.... We have never been AAA in baskeball. You sir, are an idiot.... Edited by GCPioneer

Lets look at things ..Every year South Pitts., Alcoa and Maryville in football.Jackson Co in basketball.Every year.I'm pretty sure for these schools to be this good every year ,that players are coming from out of state or from other schools to which they are zoned .Several have feeder schools.Until the TSSAA step in and makes athlethes go to schools they are zoned, gonna keep happening.Lake Co has lost about 10 athletes to Dyer Co.About a 20 mile drive. And still live in Lake Co.This shouldnt be happening.Make a rule to go to the school where you are zoned or at least try to come up with a 5 to 10 mile limit. It is hurting the smalled schools but still are having to compete against the schools that are allowed to zone people in.Lake Co has to play players that live in their county..So really cant see why people would think Union city is getting kids from all over and South Pittsburg is probably getting kids from Marion co or who knows?

That's a false statement. I suggest you make a trip down and look at South Pittsburg's little leagues. It's the same kids all the way up through Jr High. Football is just all there is here. Rarely does any kid come from outside South Pittsburg or Kimball (which is town in between Jasper and South Pittsburg). Football players that go here leave and usually comeback then they have kids and those kids turn into football players. We just keep recycling. We have dry spells like everyone else but ours usually just last 2-3 years. Nobody would mention us and open zoning if Trousdale, Boyd and all the small privates were still in 1A. We are (no disrespect to Coalfield or Greenback) the last elephant in the room on the East so it makes us odds on favorite every year. Next couple years most consider SP to be empty so others will have there shot to start a run.
