Marchetti

Johnson

Baucke

Elsea

Mosley

Hooker

All starters, Watson I was told is injured, not sure about Manley who started last two seasons at Stanford. Bruner and Clemons are likely redshirted.

Boykin and Schrader both list their wrestle offs, but Boykin doing a good job for an injured Johnson.

Shrader won his wrestle off and tore his hamstring the first dual of the year.

It seems like all D1 wrestlers that wrestle in college wrestle at UTC?

For the most part other than Cameron Croy (Brentwood High School/Harvard) you are correct.  The public school kids may want to stay close to home for a variety of reasons:  finances, grades, girlfriend, family, etc...  The application process to the military academies and elite academic schools require a combination of excellent grades, test scores,  community service hours and athletic ability.  The application process & financial aid requirements are somewhat  complicated at the academic schools and if the guidance staff is not familiar with the process it could put some student/athletes at a disadvantage. Another issue with some kids is they just don't want to stray very far from home.  I have always said that kids that go out of state for college must be very mature because they are on their own and mom/dad can't take them to dinner when they are having a bad day.

I disagree, yes Croy is at Harvard but here's a couple more who wrestled d-1 who don't go to UTC

McCoy Newberg- Independence- Nebraska

Alex, Andy, and Zach Bennett -Franklin- Garner Webb

And this is just D-1, I'm sure other kids go to D-2,3 JuCo, NAIA, or NCWA out of state too.

I was mainly speaking of the ELITE academic schools & MILITARY ACADEMIES.

The post was just a few ideas as to why so many D1 kids decide to attend UTC.  What is  your opinion?
