rulefollower
I was just at the 7th grade AAU tournament and i watched coach Maddux approached several of the top players at the tournament. He even approached my son and went as far as to offer "a sponsor family" if i was unwiling to move to nashville with him. Its funny hes hailed as this excellent coach yet his team didnt even finish in the top 8 in the D2 division at the 7th grade tourney. Its easy to win HS championship when you run an AAU team on the court to compete against teams that have to develop talent based on whats available to them locally. Maddux uses these aau tournament as recruiting tools. Its unfair to the kids that have to compete against these teams each yr. I don't doubt this, the only thing that surprises me, is his boldness. Especially during the TSSAA "dead period" where coaches are to have no contact with players. On twitter he said he wasn't able to be there, but then asked where a game was... BUT, if he was there, and this conversation did take place, please notfiy the TSSAA and the CPA administration. He does build his team from AAU, there just isn't enough technical "proof" of rule breaking for the TSSAA to take action. Especially since he targets middle schoolers. However, maybe with an admin. change at CPA, somebody there would be willing to look at this more openly. For the sake of opposing teams, and for the sake of the CPA students who are there for the right reasons and work hard, and should be good enough to play, please contact CPA as well. Maybe even the CPC pastor would be interested. Interesting enough, the latest recruit, TC is living in another minister's house... Hater247
Isn't it funny that no one has the desire or guts to put a stop to this? The TSSAA just goes about its business of collecting dues and fines with no ambition of doing the right thing for the bulk of its membership! I'm sure creating foster homes for athletes prior to the 9th grade is another way to circumvent the high school rules of living at home with a parent or guardian. That just shows that anyone that does it or allows it is promoting a cheaters mentality! It also shows that the schools mission is to win at ANY cost including the destruction of their glorious image!
kbrks
...However, maybe with an admin. change at CPA, somebody there would be willing to look at this more openly... Fat chance, new headmaster is former HS principal and fellow Vanderbilt grad and the AD for many reasons...my advice, don't hold your breath. ...That just shows that anyone that does it or allows it is promoting a cheaters mentality! It also shows that the schools mission is to win at ANY cost including the destruction of their glorious image! TSSAA rules specifically state there can be no recruiting contact with a student in 7th grade and above. Course when someone says "7th grade AAU tournament," does that mean rising 7th graders or those who have completed their 7th grade year? Regardless, as you note, we all know the spirt of the law and those at CPA would mentally acknowledge based on their religious faith not to follow the letter of the law, but the spirit of the law. Now application is a whole other matter and it is by the actions or fruits we know which is being followed. There is no doubt which agenda is being pushed forth in this setting and it is not testimony/ministry. But throw in some "good works" in another area (maybe the team will mow some elderly people's lawns or raise money for a good cause) and people can pretty much justify anything these days no matter how clear it is to others. Hoopit10
It's so sad what has happened to the testimony of CPA over the past few years. All you have to do is listen to the casual conversations around town about the dislike for this school. The only people that like CPA are those that are at CPA...and that my friends is a tragedy for a school that would like to share the light of Christ with the world! Hope all is well in the CPA bubble.

kbrks
News on an old player at CPA? http://www.libertyflamesnation.com/category/basketball/ Bonds’ status in jeopardy Braxton Bonds, another incoming freshman, was on campus in Lynchburg for a week in early to mid June. He attended classes and worked out with some of the other Liberty players. According to a source, Bonds left Liberty, and returned home to Tennessee after communicating his dissatisfaction with Liberty. One source states Bonds does not intend to return to LU. There has apparently been no direct communication from Braxton to Liberty since he was last on campus. Classes don’t begin until August 18th, so there’s still plenty of time for Braxton to be on campus this Fall and with the basketball team when practice begins. He wants out of his National Letter of Intent, so he can play BB closer to home. I'm guessing it has something to do with a girl as well. Since he's underage, I can't fault him entirely, but I'd like to think the adults that play such a huge "father" role in his life, (Coach M and Dad1) would encourage him to do the right thing (or the second right thing, since he's not going to honor his commitment to LU) and be honest, humble and use integrity, and contact the LU coach directly. DCTIGERFAN
Bonds to UT as a walk on is the word. UT now leads for Blackwell according to the 'experts' and their sources.
Partsunknown
Best of luck to Bonds in whatever decision he makes. I believe he has the talent to earn a full ride at UT if that is where he goes.

UT is going to try and get him eligible to play this year. At this point, it seems unlikely, but not set in stone. I believe it is understood that once he gets to campus, he will earn a scholarship.
