Everyone acts like Catholic is recruiting a dynasty. If they were recruiting so well they wouldn't be losing as many games as they have.

Changing the subject here a bit and not trying to be cute, but why would Rankin want the job?

I've heard it called the double dip. Get a salary at a private school and draw retirement from a public school. A lot of coaches have done it. The coach from White Station retired then went to ECS. George Pitts retired as an administrator then went to Brentwood Academy. Two salaries one job. But I don't think Rankin really wanted the job. Maybe tried to put the squeeze on Alcoa for a raise. I'm speculating not stating that's the reason.

Perhaps Coach Meske replied to a text from Coach Matthews who had texted him earlier about playing the next two years -- just like the other area coaches who received texts from Matthews. Most coaches converse via text. The AD's rarely get involved in the scheduling. Most all area coaches that Coach Matthews texted turned him down via text. This is also how most local media contact coaches. It is acceptable these days to respond by text as well. Makes sense for most coaches to respond by text or email so they can't be misquoted.

 

It is clear Catholic officials thought they could embarrass the Webb administration by reporting this to the media. They even called Second Harvest to complain about Webb not scheduling games. I just bet Webb will still donate money and food to help the needy even if it never plays Catholic in another game.

 

If this was only a Webb issue Catholic would have no problem finding games. They can't find a team in the area to play them. Figure that one out.

 

Maybe it has nothing to do with supposed recruiting. Perhaps it has to do with Catholic coaches and fans being so unsportsmanlike. Why else would Alcoa not want to play them? Sure isn't because Alcoa is scared to compete. Check on the number of locker rooms that Catholic players have been trashed after losses. Check on the trash talking this past week about Fulton parents. Check on the relationship the Catholic basketball coach has with other area coaches. Most coaches can't stand his unsportsmanlike behavior.

 

Perhaps it has to do with Catholic administrators trying to offer jobs to parents of ninth grade football players. Or maybe it has to do with Catholic disregarding the rules and playing in two jamborees in August even though they knew it was illegal. These are just a few of the reasons local coaches are giving for not wanting anything to do with Catholic.

Webb called the paper and went to press then sent a text to Catholic. If you're going to state something get your facts in order. Jeez. Like I said earlier someone who knows nothing about the situation but chiming in on hearsay. If you know so much and have all this info call the TSSAA and report Catholic. Actually playing in more than one jamboree is a violation of TSSAA rules, and Knoxville Catholic has been cited and punished for it.  Do the link and go to the "Official Notices and Disciplinary Action" section - I think it is on Page 15 - and go down the alphabetical listings to "Knoxville Catholic" and you will see for yourself.

Then that's my fault, since it was the JV team I didn't think it applied. Then they deserved to be punished.

Neither Webb nor Catholic have ever beaten Alcoa in football, so I really don't care.

Open zoning is a sexy advantage if you have it.

It would have to be a heck of a raise before I would go from winning every game and being worshipped by the entire community---duh!

That town needs to reevaluate their morals if they worship a high school football coach.

Sounds like somebody didn't check the rulebook beforehand. It's not the first and I'm sure it won't be the last minor violation. I know rules are rules but it doesn't seem like any advantage was gained by sending the JV to Clinton to fill in for a team.
