Maryville... What are they doing different there?

This will probably never end. When Maryville was in 4A and beating the crap out of everybody people kept saying they couldn't compete with the "BIG BOYS" in 5A. Now that 6A has formed and Maryville is playing up, they are beating the "BIG BOYS" even worse. It wouldn't be any different if Maryville played out of state teams. There's no question in my mind that Maryville would beat those teams then we would have people saying they'd like to see Maryville play Carson Newman or Middle Tn. State.

Exactly,

and who cares if we can beat a team from Alabama or South Carolina.... High School Football should be about local community rivialies. If you want interstate rivialies, watch college.

From Coach Wilson's son Joel:

"Update on dad: He progressed by leaps and bounds during the night. He woke up and is able to eat. They're moving him out if ICU today. We thank the good Lord for hearing our prayers and thank you for praying with us."

Great News , Thanks GovMan !

What you say is true but I would still pick Maryville against any of those teams based on their discipline alone. You watch alot of those teams and they are extremely talented but they will make mistakes and play sloppy. I've yet to see a team that plays as efficiently and is as disciplined as maryville.

Give that man a cigar!!! There's your real answer...all the other factors that have been mentioned are there, but the one "magic" ingredient is Quarles & company...The Whitehaven loss is the best example that comes to mind...not running Maryville's players down, but they were outmatched by bigger, faster, stronger, and more athletic players in almost every position. Watch the game, and you'll have a hard time finding Rebel mistakes...every player taking care of his assignment to the best of his ability on every down...that's winning football, and it doesn't come as easy as Maryville makes it look, that's what every coach in the profession is striving for, and very few ever accomplish it. I remember reading in the Memphis thread that nine seniors off that team got offers to play college ball, with three or four going to DI schools, and if not for a yellow hanky dropped in error, Quarles puts another gold ball in the trophy case with an awesome "trick" play. Player for player, Whitehaven should win that game by two or three scores.
