First time since the 1990's sometime that Jackson Co was not in the district finals. Not sure on the year, but it's been close to 20 years. Got 2nd some years, but haven't been in the consolation game. Tough loss tonight. Sounded like two virtually even teams just battling till the end.

Quite possibly the best basketball game that you will ever see. Anyone that was there last night can probably attest to that. Tension was high all night for both teams and fan bases. Both teams played really well, and never gave up. It was what you hope to see in a great high school atmosphere! Three overtimes, three game extending buzzer beaters....it was the best girls game that most people will see I would think.

I was privileged enough to watch Livingston Academy boys beat Station Camp when Jenkins was a junior in the region semis, Upperman beat Station Camp when John Jenkins was a senior in the region semis, Pickett girls beat Jackson in the region semis, etc....and this game topped all of those. A great night of basketball in the Upper Cumberland, which I believe is the BEST place to watch girls basketball in the country!

Pickett Co was down 56-51 (after leading by 9 at one point) but Courtney Pritchett (who should have been at least 2nd or 3rd team) scored...56-53. Jayna ferrell stole the inbounds pass and made one of two for a 56-54 score. JC was fouled and made one of two...57-54. Jacksopn went to the line and made one of two...59-56. When PC took the ball out they kept the clock running (!) and JC was fouled with 2.3 seconds to go. They missed both. PC threw the ball into Jayna Ferrell and her half court shot hit the backboard and went in. PC had twice the crowd as everyone else last night and they went wild! PC made I huge mistake I think in the 1st overtime. They were up by 3 with seconds to go but instead of immediatly fouling JC to prevent a three pointer, they let them drive the length of the court and hit a three. Of course JC could have made their 1st free throw if PC had fouled, and missed the second, got the rebound and tied with a 2 or won with a three. PC had a chance to win in the 2nd OT but went only 3 for 8 on free throws. On PC's last 2 free throws, 2 jackson Co. boys behind the backboard were shining LED lights at Courtney. The refs were told but DID NOTHING! A parent had to get the police but they did nothing since the boys lied about having them. This was reported to TSSAA. It is a shame this should distract from such an exciting game!

PC hit all 8 free throws in TOT. Jayna will have a shot to tell her grandchilden about someday!!! That shot no PC fan will ever forget!

That was a great accomplishment. The Pickett Co boys were in the 7A finals for 22 or 23 straight years.

    • Best-of-three sectional series vs East Robertson at home starting Wednesday.  They put us out last year at this point.  Go Pirates!!
    • I don't believe they have anyone that is surbers caliber but a decent staff overall.
    • Richland plays at McKenzie on Wed.  Should be a good series.  Does Richland have good pitching?
    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
