oldkodger
Good example set! But they have to be consistent in their enforcement for it to work. If they treat this like they have on the fighting rule (suspending some teams but not others) than it is for nothing.
lazarus
Good example set! But they have to be consistent in their enforcement for it to work. If they treat this like they have on the fighting rule (suspending some teams but not others) than it is for nothing. You are exactly right. If this is not consistently enforced, it is for nothing. How do you propose it be consistently enforced? Does the TSSAA suspend a team because it thinks they used the wrong substitutes? Do they evaluate the coach's game plan? Do they pull a team because they think the wrong player shot a technical free throw? Now that people will be a little more discreet, how does TSSAA determine whether a team is trying to win, or not? The answer is easy. Play no games that do not reward the winners, and this issue is gone. Keep going as it is, and these teams will be remembered as the only ones ever punished, for something that happens all the time.
wingman10
Kreager reported that both schools offered to suspend coaches but let the girls advance, but must have been rejected by the tssaa. a lot more information was collected by Mr Reeves and TSSAA
redandblack63
Both Coaches should be ban from coaching any T$$AA sanctioned sport. School systems should fire head coaches from coaching. Nothing is worse than throwing an athletic contest. Agree what was done but not enough was done to coaches.

UCSportsFan
This isn't the first time something like this has happened nor will it be the last but after seeing some of the highlights or should i say "lowlights" of the game something had to be done. The program at Riverdale is better than that and in the long run it may hurt them in attracting young ladies to the program like they have in the past. hoponthegusbus
1. It goes without saying that both coaches are morons and deserve whatever punishment they get. 2. I'm going to assume...and yes, this is perhaps a very big assumption...that the girls aren't the absolutely stupidest kids ever to put on a uniform. So yes, they know it was wrong, they did it anyway, and they deserve to be punished. Spare me the BS about letting the "innocent" girls play. 3. And where were the two high school principals who apparently though they had better things to do than to attend a postseason basketball game that they were responsible for? If they had been there, they could have stopped it immediately. They didn't do their jobs, either. Punish them also. 4. And why were Riverdale and Smyrna even playing to begin with? Why do four teams advance to the region in basketball but only two in baseball, softball, soccer, and girls' soccer? Because the extra games in basketball generate $$$ for the TSSAA. Pure and simple. I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that you are an astute enough basketball fan to grasp the difference between the circumstances you described and the absolute mockery that Riverdale and Smyrna made of that game. Nothing you described remotely comes close to intentionally dribbling the ball into the backcourt, trying to score in the wrong basket, shooting free throws over the backboard, or lobbing them six feet short of the goal. Surely you're smarter than that...right?
Antwan
It is not the first time a team has lost on purpose. You can lose without being so obvious. What these teams did is ridiculous. I don't see the system being changed. It was several years ago...and many threw a fit when they were left out.

If they didn't have the current format the weak districts would send teams to the state tournament and you would get a watered down version at the state tournament.
