VOLnWTN
Okay....all through December, January.....temps in 40's and above with some days in upper 60's. February hits.....gets cold, snow hits, ice hits....March same thing. This has happened for the last 5 to 10 years. All this means is spring sports because of "official" start dates get stuck in the gym trying to practice. Why can't the official start date of practice start when school starts back from Christmas break? Football goes year around.....basketball same thing..... Same goes for softball, soccer...all spring sports.

Why don't we move baseball back to April and May where it belongs or start in August when it is dry and warm.
bigchief
It will never start in August due to football. Nothing will detract from football. Plus too many small schools have to have multi-sport players to survive. You can have 20 guys that are baseball only if you are at a large school. Just doesn't happen for the majority of the schools though.
cocheese
I think letting them start in January is a good idea. I know some will say "what about kids that play basketball", well, that's their choice. Keep the start of the season where it is, but let the teams start practices in January. cbg
Spring sports should begin practice the 1st of March with play starting around the last week of March. Have SPRING FLING somewhere around the 10th-15th of June.

By definition they are not but come on....there is not a football coach/team in Tennessee, that is any good, that takes off outside of the dead period in June and July. glock22
Spring sports make ZERO money for the T$$AA! Nothing will change.

And that's how you end up with an embarrassing debacle in a consolation girls basketball postseason game. Basketball should be just like baseball/softball/soccer and just advance two teams to the region. BTW...spring sports in Alabama have their first contest when we have our first practice. BTW...spring sports in Alabama have their first contest when we have our first practice. they are also further south and have warmer temps. Spring sports should be renamed to late-winter sports. Glad to be associated with basketball where it is always sunny and 70 in the gym!
glock22
But basketball still postpones games due to weather. I guess the temperature in the gym isn't all that important after all.

Those two extra teams is a huge $$ for the TSSAA. But to be fair, it also gives the schools more money as well. I just wish the spring sports can start in January when they return from Christmas break because there were so many days they could have been outside in January getting some quality work done on the field.
