It would be nice if the two best teams played in the championship game year in and year out.  That hasnt been happening alot lately.....unfortunately.

Will the new system have any effect on that situation?

No I don't believe it has, but it would be good to see.

Understand your passion for Maryville, great team and most of us will have our hand full against them should we meet, However don't cash the check just yet. There is a lot of season ahead of us. I know they will be great, they always are, I would watch a few teams before I crown them champion again. Not sayin they won't be, but watch a game or two first.

I think 2 of the last 3 years the best two teams met in the title game. Whitehaven vs Maryville in 2012 and Ravenwood vs Maryville in 2014.

So who did everyone vote for and why? I tabbed Riverdale, coach returning with Blackman and Oakland in transition, and a good group of starters returning.

Well I picked Blackman , for a few reasons.

1.) while the coach is "New" Watson  has been there for years and all the kids wanted to see him as the coach if it wasn't going Shad, so he has Buy in  big time.

2.) They Hired a couple of the best Coaches away from Oakland with Oliver and Hartsfeild. Real key additions that have brought some great enthusiasm and excitement to the O-line and secondary / receivers

3.) They return nearly every starter on the defensive side.

4.) Speed Speed speed... as Ninth graders they had 4 of the fastest kids in the county in the backfield They are bigger faster stronger 4.43 -4:45  x 40's  in the backfield. more elusive than Jennings at times.

5.) Last reason my son is playing for Blackman ( so- Biased? .... yeah a little !!!!)

I think they have some great talent and I believe Watson was a good study under Shadowens. There will be some real good games here in the county this year.

Have not and will not pick at this time as I haven't seen anyone during the Spring.

I am wondering what Siegel has returning and how they did during spring practice.  Their line 'should' be stronger as Coach W has had them a couple of years now.

Blaze while they will have a good team.  I do not expect them to go far unless Watson has gotten over his 'freezing' during crunch times.  Man has chocked even bigger than Coach A in the past.

R'dale, while they will be better, the DEFENSE is what's worrying me.  While they may regularly hang 28 points or more on teams, it does not mean anything if the other team has 29 or MORE points hung on us.

Oakland will be interesting as their O line is suspect this year.

Smyrna is the eternal hit or miss big time as usual.  If I remember correctly they did give the 'Owls' a game when they came up here.

I would also like to know what the Coach has accomplished over the winter at Stewarts Creek.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
