I remember that game well. Particularly this one run where he broke what had to have been 7 tackles on a 50+ yard TD. It was like his 4th or 5th touchdown of the game and I remember Mike Keith saying something like, "Folks, I have a feeling you're gonna be watching this kid for a looooong time." 

 

Hurd ran up, down, sideways, backwards, and all over Henry County that year, too. 37 carries, 455 yards, and 5 touchdowns against us on our own field in a 55-41 shootout. Third highest single game total for a player in state history. He was just unreal that whole 2012 season.

That Oakland team in 2008 had a smashmouth offense that was hard to stop.If you had that as well as a strong passing game.that would be a near perfect offense.I can't even remember how much they put the ball up,I just remember they didn't really have to in the finals.

It really is amazing that, with the exception of Maryville, the other teams averaged only 5 pass plays per title game.     Would that work in college or the NFL?   No way, but it sure seems like a winner in HS

The real winner in high school is the team with the best athletes! It doesn't work in college because most teams are able to match up with athletes against other teams. If you notice Maryville threw quite a bit, because their opponent was able to match up with them. With the exception of CPA vs Alcoa & Maryville vs Ravenwood....the other 4 games, the winner just had better athletes across the board.

I think Trezvant and Fulton were pretty even athlete wise as well. The difference in that game was turnovers.
