If you haven't seen any film on Ravenwood here are two full games to watch.

Brentwood vs Ravenwood Football Game - August 28th, 2015

McGavock vs Ravenwood Football - October 2nd, 2015

Ravenwood's defense is very aggressive, fast, and disciplined.

They also have playmakers on 'O'. Little Chris Rowland, #23, being their biggest threat with all of his speed. He's a RB and a WR, just depends upon the set they run. He will touch the ball quite a few times in each capacity. He's not their only weapon though. Conner Jeffries, #44, is their bread-and-butter RB who makes the running game go. They will dive him into the teeth of the 'D' on a regular basis. He's got some speed as well. Hard runner. Nathan Freeman, #5, is a WR that they like to stretch the field with. He has good hands and nice speed as well. Tough and fast. Their QB, Andrew Rappe, #16, runs the read-option very well. He makes good decisions and he has pretty good speed as well. Then, there is TE big  Austin Geralds, # 13, at 6'-7", 245 lbs.  Those are the major players. The TE does more blocking then anything, but they will throw to him from time to time.

RW will score. How will their 'D' slow down DM is the ? I think RW wins this game however. Just too may weapons for WS to stop.

In their one loss, the QB made several poor passing decisions.  He threw several picks when he had no business throwing the ball.  Guys hanging onto his legs or in his face and he threw up some ducks instead of taking the sack.  Sure that's been corrected but pressure caused them problems that night.

One of the TDs called back in the Christian Brothers game was a mouth piece infraction against DM. The way I was told the story the ref had been geting on DM during the game about his habit of spitting his mouth piece out. It's just a quirky thing that he does from time to time appearently. He did it one too many times and the ref took issue and threw the flag at the beginning of that particular play. Who knew that that particular flag would negate a TD.

True story.

Not to take anything away from Centennial, they are a great team and they played well and won the game. The Ravenwood QB suffered an ankle sprain early in that game and it looked to have affected his game. I think it was six INT's that night....

As far as being special, you can only play who they put in front of you. But their district won 6 out of 8 in the first round against the Memphis district, which is pretty impressive. The only team that played Ravenwood close in the district was MJ early in the season.

Also, with high school kids, so many things can factor into performance. How much is a 16/17 year old kid thrown off their game because of a long bus ride, bad weather, girlfriend problems, etc. That's why just getting to this point, for any team, is such a great accomplishment. Congrats to all and here's hoping everyone has a safe game Friday!

West TN vs Middle TN.........history tells us Ravenwood should win.

Not RECENT history... Since we've been in the "6A" era, Memphis aka West TN has played in just as many or more Title games than the "Middle" against the Red Dragon... On top of that that the West aka Memphis has crack the code and can beat the Red Dragon from the East.

West TN vs Middle TN.........history tells us Ravenwood should win.

You know, if you actually look at it, in 6A ... Middle Tennessee SHOULD have more teams playing in the semi-final/championship then either the east or the west. Middle Tennessee just has twice the number of schools in the pool then East Tennessee or West Tennessee. Region 2 and Region 3 are all comprised of Middle Tennessee schools. Thats 16 teams. Region 1, (East TN) has 8, and Region 4, (West TN) has 8. So, strictly from a numbers perspective ... Middle Tennessee should be dominant in 6A and have more gold balls then either the east of the west.

Let's look at the history of 6A shall we?

2009 - White Station vs Maryville - (West TN team vs East TN)

2010 - Smyrna vs Maryville - (Mid TN vs East TN)

2011 - Whitehaven vs Maryville - (West TN vs East TN)

2012 - Whitehaven vs Maryville - (West TN vs East TN)

2013 - Hendersonville vs Maryville - (Mid TN vs East TN)

2014 - Ravenwood vs Maryville - (Mid TN vs East TN)

The west part of Mid TN has split with West TN in that span ... 3 for 3. The east portion of Mid TN has a great big goose egg because Maryville has owned that half of the state since the inception of 6A. (Not to mention that Maryville is actually a 5A school ... but I digress) When the Mid TN teams from the west portion of Mid Tn have actually faced Maryville ...They have performed like their Eastern Mid TN teams ... goose egg. The West TN teams that have faced Maryville are 2 out of 3 when they have played against them ... which isn't too shabby considering how good of a coach George Quarles is.

Let's not mention that Middle TN does have the ability to have an all Middle TN championship game. The East nor the West can say or do that. Both the East and the West part of the state only have one avenue to the championship game ... Middle Tennessee has two. Yet, we sit here today, six years into this endeavor ... and collectively, Middle TN has a great big goose egg when it comes to gold balls.

Well ... I gues you showed us, now didn't you?

well written kwc! Fans (not players) of middle tn are left holding on to the best regions while east and west try to win championships. Cannot wait for what excuses will be next from region 2 fans if it doesn't happen for them this year. This year will be one of toughest roads to the championship for the east. Good luck to the final 8!

Hard to deny that.

One thing that hurts middle tenn schools athletics is the growth in the area. You would think that growth would improve athletics, but in Williamson County it really has an adverse effect. I am admittedly ignorant of East Tn and West Tn.

For example, just in the last 15 or so years, Ravenwood opened and took athletes from Brentwood, Independence opened and took athletes from Franklin/Centennial, Summit opened and took athletes from Independence.

Next year, Nolensville will open and decimate Ravenwood. That's four brand spanking new 5a/6a schools in the last ten years or so, just in Williamson County, on top of the athletes lost to BA, MBA, father ryan, CPA, and the other private schools.

While overall growth is great, splitting schools up tends to severely dilute the talent pool for several years.

These are just my observations from Williamson County. I would be interested to hear if east/west tn. face the same thing on this large a scale.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
