So does Wayne County and Fairview scrimmage this year as someone mentioned?

I hope so. I met some Wayne County faithful at the Nashville Christian game last fall. Good folks.

Unless it changes WC will be playing in Fairviews jamboree but don't have a clue as to how many teams are in it or who's playing who

I think we play Fairview in the Hickman County jamboree on August 12th,

according to the current schedule.

That makes sense. Fairview isn't hosting a jamboree to my knowledge.

I believe this Fairview team is going to be a solid 3A quarterfinals type team. And WC is obviously favored to win it all in 1A. Should be a great battle test for each squad prior to the games that mean something.

How about a little scouting report on our boys from your point of view, backs and line

The line is coming together really nicely and we are in better shape at this point than we was this time last yr, which is a great thing! Looking like we will have 3 guy's starting that started on last yrs team. Also looks like 6 out of our top 7 O linemen will be Seniors (the 1 exception being your boy, starting at RT). Also their is loads of competition between the RG and LT spot right now with Lowe, Sinclair, Groves & Pyle!!

Our backs...well they are STACKED!! It's insane, I thought losing #4 & #7 would kill us and it will hurt alot but we got backs galore!! Like we will have some on the sidelines 3rd string that would be starting on 3/4s of other 1A schools! I'll start with this...we will go in the spread some, prob alot...with 4 wide. When we do you will most likely see guys like, Davis, Mathis, Bevis, Harris, Hatcher, Devers, the list goes on...but they will be split out with guys like Birchett, Ruddle, Hill, Nutt & Prince lined up alongside Rice in the backfield! Talk about some skill players!! We have 4 guys running legit times between 4.6-4.7! And look for Preston Ray, who didn't play last yr to make his presence known at the MLB spot!!

We got 61 players and ALOT of competition!

That's all I want to say on here...talk more in person. Can't give all our info out on the T! Lol

Great report, but I would like to mention another sophomore lineman that's worked really hard that I think will make an impact and that's Corey Mathis, 6'3 and about 255. I was beginning to think I was going to have to argue our backs speed by myself, glad you noticed it too!

Yes I totally agree about Mathis he is going to be really good and just 10th grader! Your boy and him will anchor the lines for the next few years. But I was told he was going to play on the Def line this yr.

61 players in 1A?? Wow must be nice. Much respect for Wayne Co. Great fans, and the kids had great sportsmanship when we played each other. Good luck!

Yeah we have had 45 or more players on the team since around 2006. We had 64 couple yrs back and avg around 54-55. And our enrollment is only 320 kids!

Thanks for the compliment Mike, we take great pride in playing the game the right way and show sportsmanship no matter if we Win or lose! Coach Rice and Coach Crews have ALOT to do with that. They are great coaches who have been in WC for 30 years and work well with kids.

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
