Not a "basketball" problem, it's a culture that exists that affects every student at OHS past and present. Based on the places I am seeing this article posted today (other media outlets) you guys will probably will make the Today Show again. Maybe 20/20, 48 hours etc. But as long as it doesn't affect football then no worries, right?

I moved here over 3 years ago. I love high school football and watched a few local games. I really enjoyed the style that Ooltewah played with. So I became a "fan" and have been to most home games since. That's my connection.

If it makes you feel better to keep coming at me directly, by all means continue. Two tours in Iraq will thicken anyone's skin up. As for me, I will talk about HS football on here and that's about it. It doesn't mean I agree or disagree with anything. I just understand the forum's purpose. If you'd like to meet up and discuss things, feel free to DM me and maybe we can develop enough mutual respect to make that happen.

I have read several startling things about incidents across the county and state over the last few years. Looks to me like the media has worked everything into one "evil" entity to attack. Makes it easier. Sells papers. It doesn't fix the broken society that all of our kids live in, not just those zoned for Ooltewah.

With all that has gone on in regards to OHS and the only thing RicoSuave can say is that they have not proven anything linked to football. I guess after the Hamilton County BOE pays out millions to settle lawsuits maybe the culture will change. As long as the "hardship" train keeps rolling it doesn't appear that anyone is that concerned. As far as I am concerned the 2 coaches, the AD, principal, asst principal, and director of schools all need to go to jail. Sickening situation!

RedRebels and GBBob, no disrespect intended, but what's happening at OHS is in all the news outlets and will be for sometime but why bring details of this tragedy here where folks go to discuss the upcoming football season? This may be a "culture" issue but even if that is the case I can assure you that not every student athlete or coach at OHS is involved in these acts. I agree with what you are saying as do the majority of folks on these boards but you know there are bad apples everywhere and they have to be culled out from top to bottom. Folks like Rico (who by the way never has anything negative to say) Goosedad, Passive and others should be able to get on here and talk about the upcoming football season without having to defend OHS every time the Olws or one of their sports teams are mentioned. These guys are fans, Dads, Moms, former players etc who love and support their program and nothing will or should change that. Bad things have happened at OHS and it needs to be taken care of and EVERYBODY acknowledges that, but talking about all the negative here doesn't change or fix a thing, it just throws salt in open wounds. All I am saying is that just because a person is affiliated with or supports OHS doesn't make them guilty by association. What if this had happened at your respective schools? Edited by RCfan

Oh things happen that covered up at schools very close to Ooltewah even ,maybe not as bad but still wrong. And you are exactly right the students and parents are all not to blame and should be allowed to go on. As far as it being handled people are going to trial. Discipline has been taken and I'm sure many coaches administrators teachers etc. Have taken the opportunity to address and talk to thier charges. Nothing is being swept under a rug at least not now at OHS. Looking forward to Football next season. Good luck to all.

I posted a link to the newspaper story with no commentary whatsoever. I used to live out of state and used the T to find information about the things going on back in TN. Some people aren't as adept at using the internet as folks in Rhea County.

I DON'T KNOW GOV.91. WE MAY STRUGGLE IN SOME AREAS EARLY...BUT WE STILL GOT SOME HOMEGROWN TALENT IN THE CUPBOARD READY TO DEBUT. #LOP

The Govs had 48 dressed out on friday nights last year and i've heard we have 90+ working out for football now. I have seen some of the players at basketball games and some of those guys are definitely putting on the muscle. Shad is working that magic in the weight room. I don't think we'll be running out of gas at halftime this year. #LOP

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
