Westview vs Elizabethton

The fact that this is the 4th straight year these teams will meet each other in the state tournament is a testament to both programs.

 

I personally hope Elizabethton brings home the hardware this week, because after this season, things will be declining quickly.

Westview will have to improve outside if they are to advance. They have three very capable shooters from beyond the arc, but are timid even with open looks. The post players are big, but aren't given the ball when they establish position often enough in my opinion, resulting in bad rebounding position. The point is terrific. She is relentless in driving the ball to the hole, and virtually un trappable with the press. Westview has the ingredients to be much better than they are...penetrate the defense and kick out to open shooters, and feed the post more when the defensive player is sealed behind them, and they get whichever look that they want. The better of the sharpshooters also needs to be more aware of the three point line...she will often receive the pass while open, but is eight to ten feet beyond the line. Not saying that they aren't good, they just have all the pieces to be unstoppable if they maximize what they can do as a unit.

I think you may be jumping the gun a little with saying Westview will win it all.  Their point is outstanding, but their post play is questionnable due to their youth.  They have to have three great games of shooting from behind the arc and that is extremely hard to do on the big stage. We will see...   It is going to be fun!

Outside of the Riverdale/Morristown game this may be the best opening round game of the tournament.  Looking forward to watching these two teams go at it.

Schubert is much improved from when I saw her last year in the state tournament for Elizabethton. The match-up of Deja Graves and Emily Schubert will be fun to watch throughout the game... The Marosite twins are both very good players as is Tasia Jones for Westview... The key will be to see how the others outside of those mentioned perform.... In my opinion, that will be the decisive factor.

They are screwing West Tn like that have in years past. Theyre doing the same thing they use to do when Jackson North Side girls were relevant. They paired them with Shelbyville every year, now its Westview and Elizabethton. Then they put #1 and #2 in single A in the same bracket. Middleton will play Gibson County if they both win. SMH! But, back to Westview, yes the PG has the refuse to lose mentality and she will play equal or better than she did last year. The big post players are good when teams front the post and have no help side. I have yet to see them score with their backs to the basket. The shooters cant past up open looks like they were in the region tournament. Also, if the game gets into a good pace they will be obsolete, one or two trips down that floor and those big girls will be tapping out. I want Westview to win because I am a west tn homer as I was called last week, but if I was in the pick em contest I'd pick Elizabethton.
