East beat Hampton in a scrimmage before the season. East also scrimmaged us(North) before season and they were equals. But that scrimmage only lasted for 22 plays due to inclimate weather. East also scored more points on Greenville than anyone else could thus far this season.

How many of those pints came against the first string?

No idea, but East wasn't playing 5 of it's starters either.  I agree with the earlier post that the scrimmages don't especially matter.  Indicator and a nice starting point, but that was months ago.

If we go by the scrimmages, East, North, and Hampton are basically the same skill level, which would mean Cloudland is as good as all of them, also Seymour, etc etc etc.  Every game is different on what team decides to show up.

DB may be cooking up something special for Maryville if you can believe the talk around the water cooler...

#nevergoingtohappen

Maryville will destroy DB.  SH or DB will see them again in the post season and Maryville will destroy them again.  Five years from now, Maryville will destroy those teams too.  20 years from now when SH and DB move down in classification, Maryville will draw a picture of both teams being destroyed and send them to both schools before all their games.  It will leave them 0-10.

There is not any team between Strawberry Plains up to Tennessee High that can beat Maryville in the next 5 years.

Volunteer figures to finish at 5-5 this year.  They'll beat Central because it's Central, while South is way down.  This will be their first .500 season in years.

Next year, they are expected to be a small 5A school, which is very bad for them.  At 4A, they would've had a shot at building something, but in 5A they're looking at a conference made up of Tennessee High, Morristown West, Morristown East, Daniel Boone, David Crockett, and Cherokee for the next 4 years.

The more things change, the more they stay the same for Volunteer.

I agree.   Tough place to build a program.  6 wins is the best they have ever done.  1 playoff win since the school opened in fall of 80.  pretty pitiful.  It's a shame. Theirs a lot of die hard fans. If a coach could ever win 7 or 8 games in one year they would make him mayor of Church Hill  Ha Ha!

Give the coach some time and see what he can build.  You went from 0-10, 1-9, to 5-5.  Give the new coach some time and see what happens.  Look in 4A you have to deal with Greeneville and Elizabethton, in 5A you have TN High (who appears to be down and will stay down) Boone and Crockett (up and down) Cherokee (nothing new) Morristown East (tough one here) and what Cocke County?  5A looks a lot better than 4A.  Play 5 teams that will make you look good, get more interest in the program, start stealing more kids from that side of Kingsport and you all are in good shape in the future.

Maybe volunteer should've hired Cody Baugh!

Well he just got shellacked by Greeneville.

Coach Jones is a good coach. Coached for many years in two great football programs. Like most county schools talent comes and goes but he's definitely capable of producing a few more wins a year with his football knowledge.  Good win tonight. Potential for at least one more win possibly two.  6-4 would be a heck of a turn around.

Go Falcons!
