Either CR hasn't fell off a bit or Riverdale is still going through hard times. It is really a combination of both. Riverdale has alot of holes to fill as they graduated alot of their talent on both sides of the ball. That coupled with a solid Cane Rige team with some weapons in the passingf game made for a lopsided scrimmage. I think Riverdale has a tough season with maybe going 5 and
asiatic2412
Been talking about the top teams. The bottom feeders will seem to have a tough season. Glencliff will possibly be the best of the bunch. Possibly. Hunters Lane, Antioch, Whites Creek, and Republic could go a combined 2-40. I've heard numbers at Antioch are less than 25 varsity players. I've heard. Republic is new, small excuse. Hunters Lane and Whites Creek are just not getting the athletes. 3 once proud programs are going through extremely hard times
buckeyeball
Thats a shame about WC and HL. They usually have some athletes. Just not enough to compete with the better Metro schools. I hear East Nashville should be pretty good this year. Haven't heard much about Stratford or Maplewood. Both were loaded last year so I assume the same this year. Can't imagine either will be able to touch PC.

Most coaches wouldn't have the backbone to challenge their team like that. I know a lot of 6A schools that run and hide from competition, they'll travel a 100 miles to play a weaker school with half their enrollment. Because they're win chasing instead of challenging their team and trying to make them better for the playoffs.

So much Truth!! They're short changing the kids, trying to make themselves feel better. 6A schools traveling 100 miles to beat down a school half their size. Adults should be ashamed

The just have to find the right coach who is going to get them to come out. Once the make it to at least 5-5 Some of them kids who are zoned for HL and Antioch will stay and won't make a that trip to a Maplewood or CR

A funny tidbit here, Coach TP of MJ called out Stratfords coach via twitter for making false accusations saying "a game with MJ fell through" MJ made the schedule, Stratford wanted no part. Funny stuff.

One could argue the 81 Overton team was better. Played at highest level when there were only 3 classes. Had same number of shutouts as PC in 14 games. Allowed fewer points but also didn't score as many. Beat MBA and FR. That's one team I know of that was every bit as good. You'll have to ask someone over 40 about others. Glencliff had some very good teams in the 60's

I'm not saying they'll go to the playoffs or be an elite team but I am saying that they are no bottom feeder this year. Comparing them to RePublic, Whites Creek, Glencliff, and Hunters Lane is just comical. They may be better than Maplewood and Hillwood. I think you will discover that they will be more comparable to McGavock, East Nashville, Stratford, Overton. They won't be Pearl-Cohn, Cane Ridge, Hillsboro, etc. but they will be very competitive and play hard. They aren't like the teams you've listed because they can get kids to show up to actually hold football practices during the summer.

At the start of the year the 1997 Pearl-Cohn team was very good. They lost a heartbreaker to MBA in the opener. At the end of the 1997 season and throughout the playoffs they were virtually unbeatable. Their defense completely dialed in and pitched shutouts for 2 months. I know that they weren't flashy on offense. What they did have was an enormous offensive line. Albert Washington, Joey Martin, Reggie Ridley, etc. (plus factor in John Henderson at TE). Plug in a tailback like Santonio Beard plus huge athletic receivers like JR Pratt and Ron Slay and you don't have to be very creative to score points against anyone. From the start of October through the championships there weren't many high school teams that could dream of scoring more than 20 against them. John Henderson, Reggie Ridley, Ty Lawless, Antonio Whitehead, Kenneth Gates, Wesley Holmes. They were special.
