BullShark
The real honor is being one of the final 3. Agree on the politics. Does anyone know the actual process on how this award is determined. ie how do we get down to three and then who votes on the eventual winner? I have always wondered how this works. Sports Writers across the state vote who the finalists are. That's the reason for this topic. To get the names out there across the state. I understand the deadline for those votes was Fri. the 3rd. A panel will determine the winner before the State Tournament.
BullShark
So rural TN girls automically appear to be at a disadvantage since their are less sporfs writers covering them. Who composes "the panel" that makes the final decision? Edited February 5, 2017 by BullShark

MartianMan
Who knows. It's a popularity contest, it's how many times the kid gets her name in a paper. Guaranteed there will be a young lady somewhere in the state with better numbers than the winner. Doesn't matter what you do just get your name in the paper. Guaranteed that the best defensive player/rebounder with a 4.0 and volunteers at the animal shelter every day won't even get a nomination. All about points and popularity. That's probably the most accurate accounting of how it happens. Usually a lot of hype coming in to the season and frequent publicity. Not in all cases, but in a lot of them. AA has 7-8 players who should be nominated, but they all don't get the same "hype".

Upperman is definitely in a rural area, Clarkrange and Clay County are also as rural as it gets in Tennessee yet each of these teams had a Miss/Mr. Basketball winner this year. Jackson County has had Miss Basketball winners in the past..
