There is Oakland, then the rest of region 3-6A

And that is saying more about Oakland, not less about the others. But to anybody who thought Blackman wouldn't struggle without Master Teague, they are wrong. He was a monster. Cookeville is no joke either as everybody can see now. They are a last second play away from being undefeated, and just beat Blackman 31-14. Also beat Pearl Cohn 28-7. While the region as a whole is pretty tough, Oakland is definitely in their own class in this region. The idea that the 3rd & 4th place teams are better than some other 6A region's #1 is a pretty far stretch i'd say. The Cookeville / Oakland matchup is looking like a big time game, how does everybody see that one playing out?

Cookeville-Blackman  doesn't change my opinion on region as a whole. Alot of the team's that finish 3rd-6th would fare better in other regions, Coffee County just beat a Lebanon team last week that is playoff bound. Same thing for Siegel when they beat Stewart's Creek and nearly got Ravenwood.

I agree that Oakland has some separation from the rest, but alot of Blackman's problems are self inflicted. When they go away from the run, they run into trouble, which is what happened tonight and will continue to happen if the try to win by throwing the ball

As for Cookeville-Oakland, it's a good matchup for Cookeville. The way you beat Oakland is beat them bewteen the hashes where they can't use their speed. Cookeville's offense could give Oakland trouble, especially since Oakland starts out slow (usually). However, once that 2nd half start, Oakland is pretty tough to stop, on both sides of the ball

How good is this region?

Oakland, Cookeville, Riverdale and Blackman are 16-0 out of the region and 8-0 against other 6A teams.

Siegel (who won't make the playoffs) is 2-2 with wins over 6A-Region 5 teams Stewarts Creek (43-2) and Antioch (42-6) and a 42-45 loss to 6A-Region 6 Ravenwood team that is 3-1 in that region.

Coffee County is gonna finish 2-2 out of the region.

Warren County is gonna finish 3-1 out of the region.

Siegel, Coffee County and Warren County are 3-2 against other 6A teams of which 4 are playoff teams.

Nice diversion from the topic here steel, the point was there is Oakland (great team and then there are the rest Riverdale, Blackman, Cookeville (good teams) simple as that.

    • Im more of a Basketball follower than football and like I said we play what we have, there is no going and recruiting or even talking kids into transferring…..and to rebut about Memphis teams in finals I’ve watched Memphis East and Penny Hardaway with the enrollment of a single A team play up and dominate any and all challengers for years! They aren’t the only ones either Mike Miller and son at Germantown put together that super team a couple years ago that ran through the rest of the state! Other teams from Memphis or Chatt or Nash or any large populated area pop up and are relevant out of nowhere every year because they get an influx of talent be it from a new coach or AAU affiliations it happens in football also just like any other sport! I hope these two schools that close join together and get to play the team you support, then you may see it differently! I find it funny some of you think recruiting and resources don’t matter . The county schools get very little funding also but you don’t want to get me started on that part!
    • No doubt. ORC a good dude.
    • In a total classless move, Coach Simmons once again shows his true colors. Waits till the day after school is out to let everyone know he is leaving. Fails up to a community college job after a lackluster 2 year span at GH. And do not tell me about the state run that saved a sub .500 season and plenty of whippings by Cookeville and Lebanon.  Looks like the girls job at GH is cursed. Terrible MS program/coaches feeding what is turning out to be a joke of a HS team.
