Whitwell is more like the team that got a hold of Trousdale in 91 or 92 and knocked them out of the playoffs.  This team may not be that good, but it is the best one they have had since then for sure.  Prior to 92, Whitwell was always a tough team physically.

I think it was 91 I think TC won state title in 92 but I may be wrong

Good game by Whitwell. Came out very focused. Clay took the ball first and defense responded in a big way by blasting the RB in backfield , making him fumble. Clay put together a second series drive with a fake punt going for about 40 plus yards and and a screen pass to get them inside the 10. Whitwell D adjusted after that and Clay couldn't get anything  going. Offense has been very impressive last couple weeks. Wingo ran the ball best he has all year and took over this game early. Great win now on to round 2.

He’s always been the type of back, that gets better as the game goes on and he gets more totes......  He showed a little bit more shiftiness then he ever has last night too.     If Whitwell gets him going that’s 4 players with the ability to house a football from anywhere on the field.

4 of the top 5-6 players in the county all on one team. Once again.. no excuses for this team to lose a game around here anyway.

The score may not show it, but I have to give credit to clay county. They looked good until the 4 min mark in the second quarter. Turn overs hurt them bad. Clay county had a really good quarterback, and if that kid doesn’t graduate he’ll be hard to stop. I thought it was a good clean game as far as  penalties even though I think the ref missed a couple horse collars especially the first one. I’m surprised it didn’t hurt Wingo. I hope the one kid from Whitwell is ok. Looked like a collar bone injury from what I was seeing with his body language.

    • I have no idea who your team is, but Memphis and other Shelby Co. schools have hardly made a dent, if you’re talking Game 15 appearances. Outside of a couple by Whitehaven, I can’t recall the last team in a final.
    • Robbed you guy at a chance of 3 state championships. You never kne, sond best team in the west my have beat you also, but you sure deserved the chance to play um.
    • Eagleville also loses Brown the catcher, Lamb CF, Mclemore RF (Heck of an athlete) and Drew the 1st baseman. They will be young.
    • Good thing we aren’t in Florida then huh? It would benefit a ton of the smaller schools  that don’t have the pools of kids to choose from! They should start by policing Shelby County like they do the rest of the state! Something has to change though and TSSAA knows that!
    • Correct, you can whimsically be fired in coaching. A coach that has tenure can stay on as a teacher if released from coaching. If you don’t have tenure as a teacher, you can fired without cause. Your last year as a teacher before tenure is earned you can be fired, but must be given cause. A tenured teacher can be fired, but it is a long hard process requiring the 3 D’s…. documentation, documentation and documentation. I have released 3 tenured teachers, 2 with PHD’s. However, teacher contracts had and still have clauses that state you can be fired for a variety reasons re: being arrested, public drunkenness, inappropriate relationships ect.
