Maryville and Alcoa both openly recruit on a daily basis. Until T$$AA does away with open zoning they will continue to do so. It’s unfair but it’s perfectly legal according to their guidelines as long as families follow the rules when changing schools.

Oh , you didnt get invited .. did you? Butt hurt boi

I can't speak for Alcoa but I can say for Maryville you have to be some kind of salesman to talk a family into paying $2,200 tuition so your son can come there and play football.  If I were guessing there couldn't be three or four kids that are paying tuition and I can really only think of one and their second string.  Back in the seventies a lot of kids ventured out of the county to avoid having to go to school at Everett High because the ceiling was actually falling down inside the building and the football team sucked. From that time people have created stories which have grown legs and took off running because they can't stand why the county teams here can't win. The county is a good old boy's system robbing Peter and screwing Paul. Take a good look at William Blount hiring a man under investigation by the State and has went 2-9, 2-9 and 1-9 and the closest excuse they can come up with is that one of their best players transferred to Maryville and The Word of the Day is depressing the kids instead of admitting the place is full of RAT'S and run by a con man.

Barn , that there is the truf

what are thoughts on maryville and alcoa recruiting throughout blount and into knox, loudon and hamblen counties? poaching small systems and runingin state champ caliber middle school temas for own benefit. ill hang up and listen,

Here we go again haha. I cannot speak on behalf of Alcoa, but I can for Maryville only because I was an actual student there (Class of 2015).

To put it simply, Maryville doesn't and doesn't need to recruit. They've had a solid football program primarily since Quarles became head coach in the late 90's. Quarles knows football and he credits success to God. Not himself. Coach Hunt has carried out the same high standards.

I've heard such uneducated comments about Maryville recruiting, cheating, ect... which is to be expected considering they are good team and school.

However, when I ask the accusers exactly who has been "recruited" and where their proof is, they can't give me a clear answer. It's always a wad of hear-say and jealousy.

Again, I can't say anything about Alcoa, but I know Maryville because I was actually there in the school system and know those players. As much as I know y'all want to find something so appalling as recruitment of high school kids on a sports team, good luck.

Call me biased, but there is a point of facts. Get them straight.

You’re either a homer for Maryville or very naive to think parents won’t spend that money for little Johnny to have a state championship ring. That’s a drop in the bucket buddy.

Well there's another one that's cornbread isn't done in the middle either.  Here we have some know it all that don't know anything. State championships are built out of hard work by any team that wins one. Their not built from rich mommy and daddy's that want a ring for junior. Maryville and Alcoa both are top notch schools that 99.99% of the parents that pay a tuition are wanting a great education for their kid, not a state championship ring.  Maryville produces very few players that move to the next level on a yearly basis and most of them never play but a year or two and quit when they wake up and realize life isn't a game anymore.

Personally think open zone schools should compete Div II. Needless to say, I think Alcoa and Maryville would hold their own.

So you mean like Whitehaven? It's classified as an Optional School. From Shelby County Schools website, from the link on Whitehaven's website:

With 40 elementary, middle and high school programs across Shelby County, you can always find and (sic) Optional school nearby.

Free of tuition, our schools provide creative and rigorous coursework and extra-curricular programs led by teachers who inspire and challenge high-performing students to achieve their best. Each of our schools has a specialized learning focus, such as Enriched Academics, College Prep, International Studies, International Baccalaureate (IB), Creative & Performing Arts, Health Science, Automotive Technology and more. Entrance requirements vary by school program. We invite you to learn more by calling or visiting any of our Optional schools, or contacting the Optional Schools Department at (901) 416-5338.

Who won last year's aaa basketball championship? Are they an optional school?

I don't know who won AAA basketball. I think Da 'Haven plays right where they should play. I was making a point to an Oakland joker. Rutherford County is a huge metro area also. I'm sure there are ways to get to Oakland besides moving.
