Agreed, and he certainly has the academics to make it in any of these institutions but perhaps the lure of playing for someone like Chip Kelly or Jim Harbaugh has caused him to reconsider...

That's fair enough, but to say that the Service Academies are not "colleges" is just uninformed and ignorant.  No, the SA's aren't for everyone.  It takes a special young person to accept that challenge, but to discount them as being other than among the top colleges in America is just not accurate.

And to be fair, I was really impressed with Jones when I saw him live last fall against Maryville.  I really like him as a football player, and my comments are not about him.  They are about the person who doesn't have a clue about the United States Service Academies.

Yes, it does take a special young person to not only accept the challenge but to be accepted into and have the opportunity to study at any of the service academies. A lot of people really don't understand the difference in "joining the military" and being accepted at one of the SA's. The pressure to excel is extreme for any student in a SA environment, let alone a student athlete.

Best of luck to this young man in whatever path he takes....

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
