No Region 5AA matchups this week.

#2 Columbia Academy (5-0, 2-0) Continued its march through the 2018 slate with a 38-0 shellacking of Forrest in Chapel Hill. The Bulldogs hit the mid-season mark with an unblemished record and are off this week

Community (1-3, 0-1) matched Eagleville almost score for score throughout their contest Friday night in the first region game of 2018 for the Vikings, coming up just short in a 35-30 final. This week the Vikings step out of region to take on Bedford County rival Region 4AA Cascade (0-4, 0-2) at Wartrace. This is great opportunity for Community to pick up their second win of 2018 as the Champions have lost 14 straight games.

Eagleville (3-2, 2-1) escaped Unionville with a 35-30 win over Community, and now returns home for a non-region matchup with 5A Moore County (4-1, 1-1). The Eagles have been on a roller coaster for the season and would like to repeat last years result with the Raiders where they left Lynchburg with a 41-7 win. The Eagles and the Raiders have had similar results against two common opponents, both shut out by the Cornersville machine, and both winning against Community. This game should be much closer than last year’s 41-7 Eagle win.

Forrest (2-3, 1-2) continues to struggle to find an identity and put together a full, four-quarter effort that matches their potential. In their last three weeks, the Rockets have played two 1-possession games (Summertown, Eagleville) and were in the game early with Columbia Academy. This week, they host undefeated 4AA Watertown (5-0, 2-0). 4 of Watertown’s 5 wins have been blowouts, and so the Rockets will need their best full-game effort to keep this one close. The Rockets lost 8-7 last season, may not be close this time around.

Lewis County (4-1, 3-0) had little trouble with Region 5AA opponent Summertown on Homecoming last week, and now turn their sights to bitter rival Hickman County (4-1, 2-0) in the “Battle for the Brown Jug” in Hohenwald. The Panthers are 12-5 since 2000 against the Bulldogs and have won 3 straight by an average score of 46-10. Hickman County comes into the Lewis County game 4-1 as they did last year. The Bulldogs lone loss was to a Summertown team that Lewis County had no problem with last week. The Panthers should roll again this year and keep the Jug.

Loretto (1-3, 0-1) had a week off to celebrate their first win of the 2018 season two weeks ago and are set to travel 6AA East Hickman (0-5, 0-2). The Mustangs beat the Eagles at home last year 34-7 and have a real good opportunity to pick up another win in Lyles. The Eagles have dropped 6 straight and 12 of their last 15.

Summertown (2-3, 0-3) has now lost 3 straight after starting the season 2-0. The Eagles were able to get in the endzone late in the Lewis County game after being held scoreless for about 12 straight quarters. The should have plenty of opportunities to find paydirt this week as they travel to 6A Collinwood (1-3, 1-0). The Trojans picked up their first win of the season, a region win against Perry County 53-0, on Friday. Summertown should even their record up with a win this week.

Eagles with big win over Moore Co 42-8.  I really thought it would be closer game.

Region 5AA Schedule for Week 7

#2 Columbia Academy (5-0, 2-0) @ Community (1-4, 0-1)

Eagleville (4-2, 2-1) @ 5A Richland (3-3, 2-1)

Forrest (2-4, 1-2) @ Lewis County (4-1, 3-0)

Loretto (2-3, 0-1) vs. Summertown (2-4, 0-3)

Columbia Academy(#2) and Lewis County (#9) in current AP Top 10

#2 Columbia Academy (5-0, 2-0) Is coming off their bye week to travel to Unionville to take on Community (1-4, 0-1). 2 weeks ago the Bulldogs hammered Forrest in a regional matchup in Chapel Hill. Community was shut out this past Friday by a previously winless Cascade. This game starts a stretch of 5 straight Region 5AA games in a row for Community. The Vikings have never beaten the Bulldogs, and the Bulldogs should have no problems this week to extend there region dominance.

Eagleville (4-2, 2-1) thumped 5A Moore County Friday night and is now put together back-to-back wins. This week, the Eagles should make it three in a row as they travel to Lynnville to take on 5A Richland (3-3, 2-1). The Eagles won the matchup last year at home 56-20, but this is not the same Raider team of years past. Midway through the 2018 campaign the Radiers already have more wins than they have had in a season since 2008. The Eagles have weapons on offense and should get the win this week on the road.

Forrest (2-4, 1-2) continued to struggle in their loss to undefeated 4AA Watertown at home. This week, the Rockets are back on the road as they travel to #9 Lewis County (4-1, 3-0). The Panthers’ game Friday night was interrupted by Mother Nature and after a 2 ½ hour delay the game was called due to weather. The Panthers are 4-1 following a bye week over the last 5 seasons, average score 34-12. Last year the Panthers won a physical 21-7 game in Chapel Hill. The return trip for the Rockets could end up much the same way, as the Panthers have never lost to Forrest/Chapel Hill.

Loretto (2-3, 0-1) almost scored as many points in the win at 6AA East Hickman as they did in their first 4 games of the season, blowing out the Eagles 62-13. This week the Mustangs host Summertown (2-4, 0-3) in the Pegasus Cup between the Lawrence County schools. This is the first of a 5-game regional stretch for the Mustangs. The Eagles have dropped four straight games, 3 of those shutouts. The Mustangs look to avenge the 17-14 loss last year at Summertown and have an excellent opportunity to do just that with the struggling Eagle offense.

That score surprised me. I would not have been surprised if Moore County won the game. Nice win!

I would have been a little surprised if we lost, but I really thought it would be closer. I also thought we'd play Cornersville closer, but we know how that turned out. There may not be another point scored on them til playoffs. It was fairly close for a bit, stretched the lead a little in the 3rd, and put it to bed with 14 points in the last 5-6 mins.
