2A OFFENSE/DEFENSE

Fun stats to look at is offensive and defensive scoring for the year and how every team compares. I know that it means very little because it doesn't take into account many variables that would skew the results if it was a true ranking (strength of teams played, points given up and scored on B-team or special team points, ect.). If you ranked each team based on most points scored then did the same for points allowed then added the offensive and defensive ranking together, then rank the teams based on that number here's what you would see;

1. Meigs is ranked #1 in points allowed and 4th in scoring giving the a total of 5 points

1. Peabody 2/3 total 5

3. Watertown 4/2 total 6

4. Trousdale 3/9 total 12

5. Tyner 7/7 total 14

5. Fairley 9/5 total 14

7. Riverside 5/10 total 15

8. Lewis 14/6 total 20

9. Columbia Acad 11/11 total 22

10. Polk 16/13 total 29

11. Waverly 30/1 total 31

12. Oneida 6/26 total 32

12. Gibson Co 18/14 total 32

14. Rockwood 10/23 total 33

14. Eagleville 25/8 total 33

Not mean to be a real ranking just fun conversation.

Pretty intriguing way of looking at things. I think this is pretty neat

Waverly is pretty low on points allowed but they played a couple good teams too

Watertowns #4 on points allowed is impressive. Looks liek they and Meigs are on a collision course

Nice post DD thanks for putting this together

Forrest was 27/19 for a total o 46 which is tied for 22nd out of 47 teams which was 4th in Reg. 5. Actually the teams in region 5 all finished in rank how they finish the season.

You are probably about done with this topic, but if we substract at average points allowed from the average points scored to get the average margin of victory for the season then rank those from highest to lowest we get a little different ranking. For example;

1. Peabody scores 45.4 and gives up 6.1 for a difference of 39.3

2. Watertown has a difference of 37

3. Meigs has 36.5

4. Fairley  26.1

5. Tyner 24.3

6. Waverly 23.4

7. Trousdale 21.5

8. Lewis Co. 19.9

9. Riverside 19.8

10. Columbia Acad. 16

11. Eagleville 10.1

12. Rockwood 8.9

13. Polk Co. 8.6

14. Oneida 8.1

15. Gibson Co 8

You know in both of these polls you have done, Trousdale County has been in the top 10, but for some unknown reason the AP didn't see fit for the jackets to be in the top 10 all year long. Jackets gave up 107 points this year, averaging 10.7 ppg, with 51 of those given up in their 3 losses, so their 7 wins, they have surrendered 56 points. the jackets have surrendered 76 of those points to "top 10 teams" with Watertown, Gordonsville, Friendship Christian and Whitwell. 16 more was surrendered to a 8-2 6A Lebanon, so 92 of the 107 points were given up in the 5 toughest games for the jackets, 15 points over the other 5 games. with the "B team" surrendering those to Cascade and Jackson County.
