Is anyone coming out of this region/substate that is going to have a legitimate shot at winning the gold ball this year?

I do not see it. You recall seeing the Hampton teams of 2013, 14, 15/16 and know what it takes to compete against the M Mitchell and Clay Co type teams in the tournament. I know the talent in the west isn't as strong as what MM had those years but I haven't seen a team in Reg-1 with the guard play and discipline to be a threat.

I’d like to add I love Unaka being the only district 1 team left after Hampton or Cloudland whichever it was whined around and called the TSSAA complaining until the district 1 tournament was moved from Unaka..I love Unaka is getting the last laugh being the only team left in Carter County in Single A

University High not in Dist 1 anymore huh? And who said someone called TSSAA?  Unaka??

By no means am I taking up for UH but Greenback fans (older woman and man) had to be removed from the game at Cosby and heard from refs that the same two were removed from a game at Washburn. Also a younger set of parents thought it smart to go set in our student section then complain about what they heard over there?? That being said most of the GB fans I’ve been around seemed to be nice people. We all have some knuckleheads I guess.

I agree

It’s funny how everyone comes out of the woodwork to either defend or attack the school / team of the moment. UH hasn’t been relevant in years, but now that they are this year, everyone attacks/defends. ALL schools have had thier not so shining moments over the years, so to point out UH alone is a bit slanted. UH players have been the punching bag of Hampton, Cland and NG for the past few years and I don’t think those teams / parents like it on the other foot.

GB was out of gas at the half. It called conditioning, maybe your next coach can look it up. GB was bigger at every spot and should have had a better plan, but...that’s why they play the games. After 30 games or so, your record is your record for a reason - good or bad.

As for the “near brawl” last night in the stands. UH parents changed seats after heated exchange. GB gentleman was escorted out of gym by officer after the game. GB scorekeeper left scoring table and went into stands to chastise?? All?? Not sure about the rules on that? Looked like just some overheated parents in the first half while the game was still a game. Nothing settles everyone down like an early blowout in the 2cd half.

The gentleman did not get escorted out of the gym he got took to the AD and she and her husband apologized for the way that their fans were acting. Even the fans sitting in front of my wife turned around and apologized for their actions.

Regardless the best coached team won.

Yes I definitely remember those Hampton teams that’s why I was asking.  I know Cosby fielded a few good teams as well over the years.  Didn’t know if y’all had another one over there this year or not.  Who do you think makes it to the glass house this year?  Not sure there is anyone in Region 2 in the substate that would scare me but the home court in a substate game is huge so you never know.

With the size of Cosby's bigs, they probably have the best shot of putting Univ High on the road and hosting a substate game...and it's hard to win at Cosby. But UH's Meredith is a baller. Kid just plays the game and can turn it ON. There's still a chance that North Greene or Hancock could rock the boat tho....It's really that close to call one

Cosby would be tough to beat at home in a substate game for sure. Looks like it’s going to be another great couple of weeks for us basketball junkies!

Is UH player you mentioned #30? If so we are in agreement. Gotta respect his overall game and the way he wins with grace and dignity. That kid has exhibited character both times we have played them and both times he came over after the game to talk to a few of our players giving them the respect they deserved. IMO he should be the poster child and example for the UH program. I believe in giving credit where it is due and there may be others on that team like him but he stands out for his play on the court and his boldness, courage and empathy for his actions after the game. I also want to commend the character of the GB players for continuing to lace up every game and compete knowing they are playing with half a deck to start from the beginning. It is hard for us to beat talented teams with depth on their benches who are well coached. Our kids aren’t developed and they play like a bunch of sheep without a shepherd. We can make excuses all day long about how they just got out of football and focus a lot of time on that sport as well as baseball but once they hit the basketball court there should be progression and a lot of in game instruction and adjustments. We rely too much on players needing to carry the team playing 32 minutes and trying to coach each other on the floor. You can’t be successful that way. It has been this way for 6 years. Meaningful practices and instruction and conditioning is what they need. They need discipline, butt chewing at times, organization, structure, and a lot more than scrimmaging each other, watching game film and game prep. We put the cart before the horse and just try out athleting teams. When your team leaders are begging for harder practices and more discipline and complaining about practice being a letdown what can you do? Encouragement only goes so far and it will not change until the adults in charge accepts it and makes changes. Great coaching minds have offered help that boys want and need and it is refused. So my question is why? Nobody wants to be the bad guy and rock the boat but at what point does this get addressed and how? The writing is on the wall, it is the big elephant in the room and the athletes pay the price. They play sick, they play injured and they deserve much better than they are getting.

Yes, I was speaking of #30....Kid never seems to open his mouth, smack the floor, or jaw....He just plays the game and he's dang smooth.

UH's coach knows what he's doing and gets the best out of what he has...That's a sign of a good coach
