I am a little confused as well. Waverly is blue and white, but they have black helmets now? I mean I like them being from South Pitt, but that’s strange to say the least.

The Waverly baseball team has had black in their uniforms for over a decade. Even the basketball teams have had black in their uniforms. It’s not taking away from the blue and white, its just an extra addition to the color scheme.

Enough about their uniforms. How did the team look in the scrimmage? Who are the playmakers this season?

I was not sure how well they would look after losing the big 3 to graduation but was very impressed with their performance last night. I was most impressed with QB Brooks #15. He is young but came out commanding the offense and slinging the ball. He runs extremely well also. Waverly was VERY physical on both sides of the ball. The OL DL are big strong and experienced. The backs Houston, Ingram, and Stewart are big and physical. The receiving corp looks pretty good with B. Stanfield,G. Stanfield,Stewart, and Christman. Even though everything was very basic last night the physicality and effort that those boys displayed was refreshing to see. Looking forward to the Gibson Co scrimmage Friday. Waverly hasn’t fallen off like some thought they would. They just reloaded.

What's everyone's thoughts on Waverly for this upcoming season

Hickman county will finally trounce Waverly this season because y’all were a senior heavy team last season. Plus we still have Rockezis Collins and he’s like a mini Derrick Henry

    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
    • He was pretty darn good for a freshman, but he will have a hard time seeing the field at Oakland for a good while, I’m afraid.
