Kirk Haston played pro for a few years.

That 97 Perry county team was large. Haston was 6'8 and I remember 2 other guys about 6'6. They dominated that tournament.

Best Class A team ever in Tennessee and at least a Top 10 team of all time in any class in my MHO. No team has ever dominated the tournament like they did.

I would be very surprised to see Bruce coach again. Like so many "old school" coaches his style just isn't accepted at very many places. I know he wasn't successful at Sparta primarily because he was such a hard nosed coach and his regimented style wasn't popular with the kids. I'm wondering about his son? What grade? Is he a strong D1 prospect? Interested to keep up with him.

There was a few reasons he wasn’t successful in Sparta while the coach not just ‘style’ of coaching, but that ‘style’ won at a high % for a long time.

His son is very talented player, just finished his sophomore year averaged close to 20 ppg and can really get off the floor at about 6’4-5. Has a chance to be very good.

If his son were willing, he could be a difference maker in district 8AAA. From what I've seen, he would be the best player in 8AAA the day he stepped foot in the gym. He is quite a player and Dad is quite a coach. I will never know what Moore County was thinking, but everybody has their reasons. This would be a coup for Tullahoma, but agree, Slatton isn't going to miss his son playing the next 2 years. It's gonna be really fun for Dad watching the kid play.

    • also was told coady auston applied, he served as defensive coordinator for greenfield under don pitt several years ago before going to Obion county
    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
