It’s been one of our rougher seasons for sure. We are crippled by injury and/ or depth at almost every position. We’ve got who we’ve got.  it’s no secret that we don’t have the level of talent that we’ve had in past years. We graduated a lot of really special stand out kids.  Much of our current talent is injured and more are playing hurt. RB, LB, OL, DB all have suffered because of this. And yes, late in the season most teams have injuries. We are particularly unhealthy this year tho.

My husband is the running backs coach so I’m probably not the best person to comment on the quality of coaching because I’m not exactly unbiased. I absolutely think we have good coaches. Perfect? Nope. Do mistakes get made? Yes, for sure. Do I find things that make me think “gee, I’d like to see this or that done differently?” Yes, of course. But that’s pretty much anywhere. I promise that every single one of those guys are putting in 7 days a week for this team. Yes for sure, elite players make coaches look good and make their job look easy...And A rough season makes people critical and makes things look like chaos.

It’s a  disappointing season for sure and no one wants to be at week 9 with four losses. Not the players, coaches, parents, students or fans. But sometimes the things that people want coaches to fix aren’t as simple as people think. Again, not saying they are perfect or are never wrong but  I think it’s not always as simple as it might seem.

Good Post. Accurate and relevant without being overly protective.

You can't win the Kentucky Derby with plow horses.

I watched the whole thing.  I didn't see anything sketchy except the safeties they refused to call on both teams.

Agree.  The non-called safeties were the only plays I really questioned, but even then we didn't have the goal line view from the TV angles that the officials had live.

There were some other things that could have been called - both ways - but they pretty much evened out at the end of the day.  I'd rather see officials call a game that way than to pull a flag every other play like they could.

And I am a Bearden alum, by the way.  Just didn't see this as a game the officials decided.

I felt the game was fairly called. I think at the end the number of yards in penalties for each team were within 6 yards of each other (just from what I heard on the post  game radio show). It did look like both teams should have had a safety bit again, the refs have a much better view than me. I don’t think there was anything game changing on the part of the refs

I did to and the Farragut guy never got out of the end zone. They replayed it and showed the same from that end zone

Both teams appeared to get a safety but if you re watch it you will see that the Farragut player at least got the ball out of the end zone bearden was a foot short. I travel a lot on Mondays and kill time re watching the game on Monday mornings. That game was evenly called. I thought Farragut did a good job running the ball and they coaches obviously spent time watching film to know what would beat Bearden. The DBs still played terrible. If Bearden's QB could read a defense he could've had a field day. I liked the adjustments at LB and letting #8 run the ball.

Both teams should have had a safety. Should have been 16-9.  It was a missed call on both sides.

If Bearden was awarded their safety, none of the events that led up to the FHS safety would have occurred.  It's the butterfly effect.

Bearden gets safety, fumbles kick, Farragut returns fumble for TD. Or Bearden retrurns kick for 30 yards, throws a pick 6 on next play. Or a meteor crashes onto the field near a player, that player now has super powers and runs for 5 TDs and then makes every tackle on defense to ensure a win for his team. Is that Butterfly effect? No one has the correct angle to see if either team should've had a safety.

My quote was "if Bearden was awarded their safety". I didn't say I agreed or disagreed - Admiral.

    • The Girls Basketball team I am a part of played for a gold ball this season. One of the biggest differences in the sports is that there is no field prep/maintenance in basketball.   Our baseball is successful and play 30 games in the regular season as well. All of the teams dedicate A LOT of time in preparing for their next opponent.
    • Im pretty excited about the new rules that NFHS voted to adopt. Does anyone know if this will take place in Tennessee starting this year? I think I heard/read somewhere that the TSSAA bi-laws say they have to mirror what the NFHS does, and when the NFHS offered the current weight classes as options, TSSAA didn’t adopt them until NFHS made them official. Did NFHS make these changes official starting next season or will it be similar to the weight classes where TSSAA doesn’t change what they are doing until it is  an officially official part of the NFHS rule book? It’ll be interesting to see if it is rolled out for the new TSSAA Middle School season and I saw a post where the youth wrestling in TN was going to vote on adopting it as well.  I’ll pray for all the youth coaches that will have to shoulder the confusion from all those crazy #### parents who already think they know the rules more than everyone else  . Imagine the first time their kid is taken down and a 3 goes up on the scoreboard or their kid gets pinned with only one point of contact in the cylinder. Their heads might explode. i kid, I kid. Sort of. I’m surprised ride time was brought down with all the other changes. I know some argue that it promotes stalling on top, but its been an official scoring method in college forever, so I figure it must be doing something right. Do any of you think that’ll ever be implemented?
