I wanna make a proposal here.

I want to see more championship games.

After the public and private champions have been crowned.  Here's my proposal:

Week after BlueCross Bowl:

1A champ vs 2A champ for the Class A title.

3A champ vs 4A champ for the Class AA title.

5A champ vs 6A champ for the AAA title.

Week after DivisionI Class A/AA/AAA :

DI Class A champ vs DII Class A champ.

DI Class AA champ vs DII Class AA champ.

DI Class AAA champ vs DII Class AAA champ.

Let DII schedule one or two more regular season games to keep the schedule on track.

Teams prepare for playoff quarterfinals

30 games scheduled for this weekend

November 20, 2019

Sixty teams suit up for action in the TSSAA state playoffs this weekend. Division II schools play their semifinal games Friday, while the Division I schools are set for quarterfinal play. Championship games in all nine classes will be held Dec. 5-7, 2019 at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville.

Schools that have not provided their full roster to the TSSAA Portal with jersey numbers, height, weight and positions should do so at this time.

Fans can buy tickets in advance for all 30 games and view programs and rosters on TSSAAsports.com.

Notes

Nolensville and DeKalb County are playing in the schools' first quarterfinal playoff game.

Six schools have a chance to make history with a win Friday. Fairley, Forrest, Riverside, Shelbyville, Summit and Wooddale have never advanced to the state semifinals. This is playoff appearance 28 for Forrest and the fourth appearance for Summit.

Of the 60 schools remaining in the playoffs, 42 have had at least one state finals appearance.

Davidson Academy (4), Loudon (3), Lausanne (2), Oneida (1), Nashville Christian (1) and Brentwood (1) have won the championship each time they have appeared in the state finals.

The last time Maryville did not made the state semifinals was 1999.

This is the 16th consecutive year that Aloca has advanced to the state quarterfinals. MBA is on an eight-year streak and Oakland is on a seven-year streak. CPA, Greenback, Ravenwood and Whitehaven are on six-year streaks. South Pittsburg, Springfield have advanced to the quarterfinals every year since 2015.

South Pittsburg and Gordonsville are meeting for the 15th time in the playoffs. Other more rare meetings: MUS/MBA (7th meeting), Elizabethton/Greeneville (6th meeting), Austin-East/Alcoa (5th meeting).

There are nine first-time playoff meetings this week: Summit/Shelbyville, Peabody/Fairley, Oneida/Meigs Co., Nolensville/DeKalb Co., Nashville Christian/USJ, Loudon/Red Bank, Huntland/Huntingdon, Henry Co./Dyer Co., Covington/Wooddale.

Several schools have not advanced to the state semifinals in recent years. These teams are looking for a win this week to break a 10-year or longer drought:

School Last Year in Semifinals
Watertown 1976
Dyer Co. 1976
Huntland 1998
Hardin Co. 1998
Houston 2001
Dobyns Bennett 2002

I'm gonna make another proposal to the TSSAA.    ALL playoff teams must submit a detailed roster list to the TSSAA. Or suffer a $250 fine. And another $100/week thereafter till you're eliminated.

Also by the quarterfinals each school remaining must also have personal stats for each player on the roster.  Or suffer same fines as above. Stats will be viewable via a click on the player's name.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
