None that I know and I know more than you currently. The chairman of the school board liked my tweets on the history of the name. The school knows all about Coach Dean Bailey suiting up a couple of Maryville College players in 1934 and being banned from playing a TSSAA schedule in 1935. He played a 1935 season anyway against NC, GA. AL and a few NON-TSSAA teams in TN. They deemed him a REBEL. The name stuck. One of the initial leaders of this, is a 2014 Grad who went to Belmont and now she feels really bad for people who she never associated with in high school (athletes).

Well good for you, apparently you must not have seen the letter and who's email was on it at the bottom. I could open a can of worms on here but things will take care of themself without that. Far as the 35 team I personally knew at least half a dozen men on that team and heard their stories when they were alive without having to go look up articles from newspapers of the past. I also knew men when I was younger that played on the very first Maryville team in 1926. Also I played for Maryville when they had all the past captains of every team prior to one of our games come and be introduced to the crowd from 26 forward and most were still living at that time. I just didn't know at the time to bring a camera and a tape recorder.

You are so cryptic. I don't do the FB where most of this is going down. I do know people who walk those halls daily, Most meetings end with, "How 'bout them Rebels" or "Let's go Rebels" .

You are hard to talk to. I look stuff up to get the dates correct. Half the schools names are wrong on the 1935 seasons results. I looked it up, to be correct. The info on the Alabama schools was from the AL HS database. I've also talked to people at Fulton, who have the Stair Tech records.  And you yourself have every program from the last 50 years or longer.

Once again, what letter?

And crotchety!

Just ask and I will send it to you. Sorry but sometimes the way we write things aren't the same as we mean them. I was just telling someone on the phone a few minutes ago how much I enjoy some of the things you have brought up about the past that I didn't know. Like him or hate him Bob Gilbert passed a lot of hidden knowledge about the past regarding Maryville and the other schools before he came closed off and shut the world out of his life before passing away.

Bob invited me to Green Meadows when he had all the living members of the Maryville-Alcoa Twins of 1951 come back for a reunion. I did meet Mr. Hamil who was one of two coaches from the very first Friendsville Football team in 1954. I really think because no one took an interest in that really pizzed the man off and he quit his radio show the following week he started 30 years ago and just shut down contact from anyone.
