Shouldn't the goal of every program to be able to finish the season and not put teams, fans and communities at risk of contracting COVID-19.  Seems to me, the directive from TSSAA can/and is interpreted very loosely.  If you have a school with 377 and you have 80+ on quarantine, why would you want to take a chance and bring that exposure to any community?  Coaches and school administrators are constantly being bashed on social media with regards to putting $$ ahead of health.  Just my opinion, but it seems like everyone is in a danged if you do or danged if you don't situation.  Bottom line, health should come before $$.

I agree, it would also suck to come down with it and then have to forfeit the next to region games also.

Great post. Two gordy coaches are administrators so it makes it even worse for them to put dollars above health.

They should not be able to play. Eighty quarantined is too high of a percentage.

I would almost guarantee that everyone living on this earth has been exposed to this virus by now, but I do agree that if you feel strongly enough about the risk that you would quarantine 80 students then you should definitely not travel and take on the risk of spreading it other kids or communities.

Good point. For once we agree.

Actually, Gordonsville had no money to gain from playing Coalfield. It was an away game and they were trying to fulfill contractual obligations.

So, what are other schools doing when they get a positive case? Who do they quarantine, if any?

We have merely a handful of positive cases. The kids that were sent home were within 6 ft for more than 10 minutes. It wasn't the whole school and none of the football team tested positive. By my math, less than 2% of the kids sent home had tested positive. Ya'll a t like all the kids quarantined are sick, when that is the furthest from the truth.

I'll be honest. If you go to Walmart or the grocery store, you can't complain about scholls being open or having football games.

Was some of the players quarantined?

I am just saying that other schools in the state have had the same and had to forfeit two games for the 2 weeks of quarantine. So why does gordy not have to do the same? Why is the school not shut down with 80 students out? Oh let me guess, so football can play.

Those other schools had players test positive, at this point, we haven't. If 80 kids had tested positive, the school would likely be shut down, but last I heard, there were only 7 positives. You gonna shut down a school for that number?

If TC had 7 cases in 7-12th grade, would they shut down the school? I doubt it.

If I remember correctly last March, several entire county school districta closed down for one case.

I saw on Twitter that Blackman football is out two weeks for one positive.

They just closed Independence High School and canceled all football practices and games for a couple of positive cases and students in QT.

I guarantee the percentage of students there was a lot less than 80 out of 377 for gordy.

You're not getting it. Those 80 are not positive.

You love harping on Gville for whatever reason when they are no different than any other school in the state, including TC, except for maybe Metro.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
