westtn12
So you mean to tell me that west Tennessee schools in AA will have to suffer all because Memphis “needs” two whole regions. That’s putting districts 9,10,11,12 Regions 5 and 6 in a tough spot. Teams in those are dominate in girls basketball, and you’re meaning that two teams from Memphis will make a state tournament, while 2 teams out of Region 5&6 will be at home who actually deserve to be there had the districts been aligned right. explain the logic in traveling 170+ miles/3 hours for a substate game when most teams don’t travel that to Murfreesboro for the STATE tournament. Jaychapman
Typical TSSAA not much logic in anything they do / but guess hard to separate strong boys team and same school having terrible girls teams

I get it’s just through 23 I think. So maybe after that they’ll see it didn’t work out well.
District12AA
Plenty of logic in why this was done. The West Tennessee crybabies want to run from competition in Middle Tennessee.

West TN already plays a state tournament to get to a state tournament?? Single A now you have Greenfield, Gleason, Gibson County, Union City, Bradford, Peabody and Dresden all in the same Region. Out of the last 6 years before last year there were 4 Gold Balls and a Silver out of this Region. Last year there were 2 in the Final Four when it ended. Does this look like teams that aren’t playing any competition?? Do you think all of the success is a fluke?? What teams in Middle TN is West TN scared of?? Loretto and Summertown come to West TN all the time and play. Edited January 28, 2021 by pioneer42

Any fan of girls basketball is going to dislike the setup in AA. It means that only 2 of Westview, Union City, Huntingdon, Gibson Co, Summertown, Loretto, and Cheatham Co can make a state tournament in a given year. That’s a lot of historically strong programs. It also means that some lesser teams will go to a state tournament and likely get drilled in the first round. No fan of girls basketball wants to see that. This same thing applies to baseball and softball as well. Smaller Memphis schools, like those that will be in AA starting next year, are historically very weak in softball and baseball. Boys basketball is an exception as the new setup with 3 Memphis districts will likely not impact that state tournament negatively. Summary is that while there may have been some logic in the decision by TSSAA, it will negatively impact the state tournaments for 3 sports at the AA level. That is not a shot at Middle Tennessee because you have some great basketball but we are stepping it up a notch in AA the next couple of years. Well we don’t shy away from competition and moan about geography. The realization is the change of districts had to be made to balance out districts across the state. It does not change the fact that it negatively impacts state tournaments for girls basketball, baseball and softball.

Come play us we having been looking for extra games ever since December. Not many teams run a press like McKenzie runs.
