Being a 12 month Administrator, I was always the acting AD basically in July. We had not received the contract for the home game from Betsy. I made the call and the AD said we weren’t playing. First we had heard about the cancelling of our game. I wondered when they would have contacted us. It was very  un Elizabethton like. We hustled and found you all a game in Kentucky.

Both sides worked hard not to make this mishap a stumbling block for our schools, and other activities and sports.

We were replaced by Happy Valley and we added Mercer County Kentucky.

Yep against Mercer County who had just won the 2a state championship the previous year going 15-0 and Consolidated with Harrodsburg High School moving them to 5a when we played.  We lost that game 14-9 on a last sec TD that I tipped.  Betsy didn't want that game against Greeneville that year and went 4-6 and were beaten by two teams (Sullivan East (20-14) & Sullivan South (56-14) ) which Greeneville had wins over that Year (Sullivan East 49-12, and SS 24-21)

I can say this I never lost to the Cyclones when I played

I never want to lose at anything and this is no different. However,I'm not looking at this game like it's the end of the world, win or lose. This is for who plays at home if they meet again in the playoffs.Yes,that's pretty big but it doesn't put a gold ball in Greeneville or Elizabethton this year.I think the winner will be who learns the most and makes the best adjustments for the possible 2nd game and yeah, who has the most points at the end of this one as well. I'm not putting either team as an early favorite, both will have to earn that next week.Go Devils.

Couldn’t agree more. Last season was a great learning experience for both sides. I KNEW those Devils were NOT the same team we played in the first meeting. And it showed. The Cyclones did not regress, but the Greene got that much better. Anyone who thinks otherwise is foolish. Just look at the Nolensville game for proof. And don’t count out AC. Same could be said for them. It’s only week three folks. The Gold Ball could very well end up on a team with at least 1 loss. District 2 and the West have improved. But, let’s play THIS game first before we get too ahead of ourselves. Hope it’s a great game, and a Cyclone victory!

Very well stated except for the last two words.... the GREENE is going to roll in this one.    GREENE by 14

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
