Mercy Rule question

in basketball when the mercy rule starts it never stops,  So if they start the running clock at 35 points and the other team scores a buckett and the lead drops to 33 the clock still runs...is it different  in football?

B-games, JV, whatever you want to call it, provides lots of snaps. If the game is that much out of control, the 4th quarter is basically a JV game or if the coaches dislike each other the 1st  team is killing the seconds and 3rds.

While I understand the intent, I don't like the mercy rule because it takes away playing time from the kids who don't get to play much.

It was put in because of teams like Tyner beating Boyd Buchanan 91-7 in 1997

Yes, I said I understand why the rule is in place. I just hate that it takes snaps away from kids who don't get much playing time.
