Covington is gonna run our offense, you are right about that. The thing is, nobody has been able to stop it so far in 2021. Ripley slowed it down, but we still got 30. I don’t expect anything different on that side of the ball.

Where I expect Coach Kirby to be unpredictable is on defense. I guarantee that he and DC Katrosh will have a new wrinkle or two for Friday. I recall the last two times we played Westview. They had schemes that totally shut down highly touted QB Simpson. That’s just one example of their innovative defensive schemes.

It’s honestly not much to think about when stopping both offenses. Both run wing T and will have similar ways to try and stop it. Honestly the easiest way is following the guards they take you to the ball lol

The more I think about this game, the more I am starting to think Covington wins. Who has Dyersburg played that can compare to Covington? Dyersburg should have lost to Munford and Covington was defeated Munford easily. Covington does have a recent history of losing big games in the regular season. I wouldn't be shocked if Covington won big, or if Dyersburg wins a close one. I don't see Dyersburg running away with this one.

IT's funny that you say that, cause Dyersburg has a history of winning these games in the regular season then laying eggs in the playoffs. As a Dburg fan i'm tired of this narrative but we have definitely earned it. This game has a ton of hype to it and I would love to see Dburg win it, but for me the more important game is potentially in November ,so as long as I see Dburg can compete with Covington then I'm ok. It's ok to lose the battle as long as we win the war is my mindset. Dburg has proven year in year out that they can win a lot of games in the regular season but cant get over the hump in the post season. I say potential game in November because I'm not dismissing Ripley.

Reading about Dyersburg’s schedule, I decided to check it out. Here’s what I found. Both Dyersburg and Covington have one Covid forfeit win, over Bolton and Millington, respectively. Pretty even so far. However check the records of the 4 teams each has defeated to achieve dual 5-0 records:

Dyersburg schedule

King Prep 2A record 0-4

Dyer County 5A record 3-3

Munford 5A record 4-2

Bolivar 3A record 1-4

combined win / loss record = 8-13

Covington schedule

Munford 5A record 4-2

Brighton 5A record 4-2

Jackson Northside 4A record 4-2

Ripley 3A record 3-3

combined win / loss record = 15-9

Very interesting schedule comparison.

The only team Covington has faced that Dyersburg hasn't would be JNS.

Not true. Look back a couple of posts and you will see that, for instance, Covington has faced Brighton (4-2) AND  Ripley (3-3) while D'burg played King Prep (0-4) and Bolivar  (1-4).  There's a huge difference in the two team's schedules.

Huge difference!!! I scream to the roof tops every year about that annual MLK game.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
