Figure I should post Bishop's updated numbers:

  • Rushed for 215 yards on 43 carries against LC (2 rushing TDs and 1 TD passing)
  • Through 7 games, he has 2,034 yards on 266 carries (7.6 yards per carry, 290 yards per game), 117 yards receiving, 18 rushing TDs, 2 receiving TDs, and 1 passing TD
  • At least 4 games remaining (Halls, OR, Clinton, playoff opponent)

Tough road to hoe, but we'll see what happens over the next month. OR and Clinton both have pretty solid defenses. If Karns gets knocked out in the first round of the playoffs, he'd have to average 331 yards per game to break the single season record. He'd need 44 carries per game to break the season record for most carries.

Good breakdown! It’s definitely a tough road. Pretty much any team Karns and Bishop sees the rest of the season and playoffs should be able to hold him below his season avg. Playoff wise for example if Karns end up 4th and goes to Rhea Co. Rhea plays ball control and will try to limit the amount of possessions Karns get in the game making very tough to get the same production Bishop would have against other teams. McMinn has a decent defense and if healthy Walker Valley has a very good defense

The fact is Bishop is the #1 rated recruit for his class in the Knoxville area. Probably the #1 back in the state in his class. That says all you need to know.

I love the Bishop kid.  He's a tremendous running back.

But according to Rivals, Redmond from Powell is the top ranked Knoxville area recruit and Bishop isn't top 20 in the state.  There are 5 Knoxville area recruits in that class on the list:

2023 Unapproved Website Tennessee Top 20

He's not listed in the 247 composite top 23 in the class of 2023, either, and that list includes 4 Knoxville area guys.

2023 Top Football Recruits in Tennessee (247sports.com)

And, yes, those lists are subject to those doing the rankings.

Bishop and Vaughan are both outstanding running backs.  They are different types of backs, but both guys I would take in a heartbeat on my team.

And an edit:

Jesse Smithey and 5 Star Preps does list him as the #3 Knoxville area recruit in his early look.  Sorry, but if you aren't a subscriber you can't read this:

Maybe I should have said will Because That will change once he adds Mr Football to his list the debate will be over. He is a generational talent . Redmond isn't even the best WR on his own team anymore. How long ago was it updated?

College scouts are largely looking at measurables and potential, which is why Redmond is ranked so high. Just curious, but who would you say Powell's best WR is?

Imo opinion it would be Ayden Greene as far as overall talent. I also believe the best football player on the team as a complete overall athlete is Foust and it's not even close. He is an absolute ball player.

Agree on Foust, he has really evolved his game and I think he's the best overall athlete on the team. Greene and Collins get my vote for the best WRs. Just an incredible luxury this team has had with those three, plus Redmond at WR. That depth has allowed Foust to play a lot more on defense this season.

You'd probably love him more if he was playing for Weasel Matt & Co. at Powell.

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
