Rhea Co. doesn't back down from anyone - They have had a hard time filling schedules like a lot of teams. They have had to play a team from Indiana, North Carolina, and had one scheduled at Kentucky this year, that was dropped to play a home and away with Alcoa. They played at Elizabethton this year. Murfreesboro Blackman and Cane Ridge years before. Jeff Co., Riverdale in the playoffs - you name it. I believe one year Rhea came very close to Maryville in Maryville and missed an extra point and lost. Maryville has won 140 straight region games and hasn't lost that since the year 2000. What's your point? A lot of schools do not have the luxury of not playing kids both ways - recruiting - home cookin' - etc...Maryville face it just needs to play private schools and out-of-state schools. They are great for around here.....but when they get drilled 49-7 in the 'ship???????

I never claimed RC backed down from anyone. I stated Rhea ain’t Maryville. True statement. Love how East TN teams and folks always say… Maryville ain’t Oakland….jealousy at its finest. And I don’t even care for Maryville.

NOTE: The 1952, 1953, 1970, 1971, 1973 games were against Rhea Central.

It was dang cold in 2008 @Rhea County.  That game was a lot closer than the 28-8 score.  If memory serves me correct (it often doesn't), Rhea Co blocked a Maryville punt that Maryville picked up and ran for a TD or a long first down that led to a TD.  There may have been a Maryville defensive score, too.  Did I mention that it was dang cold.  About 17 degrees.  Some Rhea County fans had some propane heaters in the visitor stands.

Yeah I remember that night well. It’s still the one of the largest of not the largest crowd I have ever seen at Eagle Stadium for a game. It was cold that night. I was in the press box luckily that night where it was alittle warmer but not by much. The one thing I remember is Rhea had 4 interceptions and 3 fumble recoveries but could not capitalize on them.

Yeah that was a really good game until you guys blew it open toward the end. I was thinking it was a fake punt or field goal that you guys scored on and then a defensive TD as well. It was very cold.
