No doubt about it. I'm a little surprised that they are not going to start it earlier. They will probably be under heat protocol by 12.

Weather Channel says the high Friday will only be 84 degrees. I’m more concerned about thunderstorms, but they usually happen later in the day.

About 100 Covington Charger fans showed up to watch today’s scrimmage vs. Jackson Southside.

Each team scored once on offense and once on defense. The format was: each team gets the ball on offense at their own 30 yard line and runs 8 plays.   Then the opponent gets the same chance.

in my unbiased opinion, the Chargers dominated, especially the Charger defense. Southside had their first 4 possessions of 8 plays each, but never advanced past their 32 yard line. On their 5th possession, we put in our #2 defense and they broke a 70 yard TD run. On subsequent possessions, they moved the ball some against that #2 D, but never crossed the 50.

On the Chargers first possession, running back Jamarion Dowell carried the first two plays and advanced the ball from our 30 to their 10 yard line. However, their D stiffened and held us out of the end zone. Overall, the Charger O moved the ball much better all day, and AC Mason eventually took a screen pass about 50 yards for our only offensive score. He also scored defensively on an interception return.

My info says that Covington travels to Huntingdon this week for a scrimmage. I’m not making that trip, but I would appreciate a summary of the action. If anyone goes to the scrimmage, would you mind posting details here?
Thanks in advance.

I did get this second-hand info. Covington 4 scores Huntingdon 2 scores.

I don’t have any more details.

It was 4-3. Covington will be a force this season and have speed and size. It looked to me that Covington had 50-75lbs each on Huntingdons line. As big as the Charger defense is, some of their boys didn’t seem to get in a stance to come off the ball. I’m sure that will be corrected. As a Huntingdon fan, I like these scrimmages with Covington. They are always physical and tough. I just wish it wasn’t such a drive. Good Luck this season.
