Even though I was pulling for Covington, I’m glad to see Coach Calhoun develop a successful program at Munford.

Coach Calhoun was the head coach at Haywood from 2011 - 2012.  His record at Haywood was 4 – 16.  In my opinion, the fans and players at Haywood did not give him a fair deal.

It's good to see the fans and players at Munford buying into his program and giving him the opportunity to prove what he can accomplish.  Good luck to Coach Calhoun and the Cougars the rest of the way.

Regroup Chargers!  With the exception of the Haywood game (Go Tomcats!), I hope y'all finish strong and make it to Chattanooga.

In all fairness, I don't see how anyone can go 4-16 at Haywood.

I can't speak on Coach Calhoun. Don't know much about him, but I have watched Covington from a distance over the past few years and I have been less than impressed with their coach. If they go into a game where the talent disparity is even, they almost always lose. Kirby loses more evenly matched games than most. The old coach who left a few years back would almost never lose evenly matched games and hardly lost to superior opponents.

I like that Kirby isn’t shy to play Haywood. The last coach I can’t say that about

I didn't watch the game, I did listin to it on the radio. The offense struggled to get anything going all game it seemed like and that kept the defense on the field for way to long. Munford physically wore covingtons defense out. I hope they figure something out on the offensive side of the ball, I wasn't impressed with their performance in the jamboree and it looks like it might have carried over into this game. I know it's just 1 game in a long season so I'm sure they will get it goin and figured out pretty quickly.

Everyone loves to talk about the skill players, but shout out to the offensive line of Munford. Those boys went to work last night and loved real impressive pushing around what is always a really good defense from Covington! :thumb:

Agree! Munford OL played awesome early and kept it up after that Covington defense was on the field for 90% of the game.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
