McCallie is down and has been down for a number of years.  Unless someone forces The McCallie School,  Board of Trust to change their philosophy I don’t see McCallie getting back to their glory days in the near future.

Baylor has adopted the philosophy that even though they have a middle school they are showing no signs of developing talent.  It appears as if they will continue to recruit enough talent to fill all of their holes.

I had heard that Baylor brought in Edward Holland to run their club, who I have been told is a heck of a good coach. I believe he worked at McDonogh in Maryland where he trained a ton of kids that are currently in the division one ranks. To me it looks like they are going to develop internally and bring top talent in. Some of the coaches up north seem to think they could be the Blair or Sem of the south. Will be interesting to see what happens. I watched their head coach wrestle for Michigan State, he was a Stud in College.

Maybe, but just when you get your hopes up on TN wrestling we always find a way to disappoint. Cautiously optimistic.

It’s much more difficult to develop talent than it is to recruit kids that are already very good wrestlers.  I will believe that Baylor will stop recruiting and begin developing talent when I see it with my own eyes.  How many state champions has Baylor had that competed for the Baylor middle school team as 7th & 8th graders in the past 15 years?

Don’t see how….

If a student with an athletic record transfers to a new school where an “athletic coaching link” existed in the past 12 months, that student is ineligible for 12 months past their first date of enrollment at the new school at all levels in the specific sports where a linkage was present. Links may include (1) attendance at an individual camp (and then transferring); (2) playing on non-school (independent) teams (and then transferring to that coach’s school); (3) transferring into a school where a former coach has been hired; and (4) transferring to a school where a former or current personal trainer or strength and conditioning coach is employed

You'd think that Holland leaving Heritage to go to Baylor with him would make him ineligible.

But as we all know, things run differently in Chattanooga.

Recruiting in our sport will continue happen as long as nobody turns teams in on it. I notice it all the time when kids wrestle on these summer dual teams and then end up at that coaches school.

So do you turn in these teams you see doing this all the time?

I remember when Colby Dalon left Pigeon Forge for Lakeway (the 20-21 season).  I thought there was no way he would sit out, but he did.  Props to him for taking the hit and following the rules.  Personally I think kids should go where they want without penalty when it comes to public to private transfers but I also understand why the rule exists and the sport of wrestling isn't responsible.

Athletes that transfer to a “BOARDING SCHOOL” are immediately eligible even if they have established an athletic record.  Baylor, Lakeway, McCallie, The Webb School and Saint Andrews Sewanee are all boarding schools.  The rule probably needs to be re-examined

Just to be clear I am at Baylor this year to run the club and Girls wrestling program. I am in no way apart of the boys coaching staff. Most don’t understand because they are selfish but I’m willing to step to the side to give athletes better opportunities for themselves to achieve the goals they want. If anyone would like to question the “coaching link” I will gladly show the email from Mark Reeves that I have that tell me exactly what I’m allowed to do and not allowed to do this year

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
