Marion vs Forrest

Disappointment.

On a solemn night where a former Rocket was remembered, Coach Eli found yet another way to lose a game.

The most vulnerable and thinnest Marion team in history, with a rookie HC, came to town and lit up the Rockets for SIX TDs.

You’d need an umpire’s clicker to count the missed tackles by Forrest. It was half a dozen per play a BUNCH of times.

Same things as most Coach Eli teams.

·         Confusion, exhaustion, cramps

·         Puzzling pass plays with one option and no check downs.

·         Losing his mind on the refs and getting zero respect.

·         Defense out of position and so slow afoot that you wonder if the Marion players had a trampoline to run on and the Forrest players were stuck in quicksand.

·         Conditioning, weight room questions. People in the stands are asking if our kids are even lifting right now.

But after all that, with half a minute left and Marion deep in its own end, you hold them there, and you’re going to OT (where you probably lose, but perhaps can satiate yourself with a moral victory).

22 seconds left.

He couldn’t do it.

79 yard TD, and the Marion kid is UNTOUCHED. Just baffling.

One series in the second quarter found Forrest with a 3rd and 36 from inside their own 10, after two false starts and a delay of game.  Exasperation from the press/coach’s box bled into the PA feed and was broadcast to the masses. Thankfully it wasn’t profane.

It’s just week after week of seemingly complete incompetence. And I don’t care if people get their feelings hurt. This HC cannot do the job. It’s been obvious from day one. BEFORE day one. His ineptitude was camo’ed by a terrific 2019 team that he still almost ruined.

I’d fire everyone except Daughrity and Russell and put Johnson and the rest of his staff with those guys and ride with that. Effective immediately. FMS hasn’t lost a single game in 2 seasons! Think those kids are excited about what’s coming?

Forrest has Cascade, Richland, East Robertson, and Mt Pleasant remaining. A 3-7 finish is imminent. This team doesn’t deserve to make the playoffs. It’s not the kids’ fault.

Change won’t happen. But it should. This has been an accumulating catastrophe. The kids are suffering the most. Anyone who tries to posture morally about this or that defending this regime doesn’t care about those student-athletes. They deserve so much better and so do their families. The people who have seen this as a failed experiment care more about the kids than anything else. There is too much talent on that field to see what we’ve seen in the Coach Eli era.

People take the 2019 season (12-1) and last year (9-4 in the worst region in TSSAA history at any level), and see 36-19 and shrug. But take those 2 years away and he’s 15-14, and that’s been Coach Eli ball in a nutshell. A .500 coach against pretty bad competition.

And even in 19, and 21, when Forrest had a chance to make semis, they got beat on their own field by Riverside, both being games Forrest should have won.

So if it’s just fundraising brownies and golf claps you’re after, he’s been wonderful.

If you want the results to equal the potential of the kids, he never should’ve been hired. A defensive guy calling the offense, and a defense in dire straits.

This team needs a Sultan.

Forrest could have easily won that game. Like your announcers on your broadcast said "it may come down to who has the ball last." Sometimes the breaks always go against you. It seems the Rockets have that right now. at least against Marion.
