Strange times. Never thought I’d see the day a Science Hill basketball team is as bad as they are.

I personally don’t think the inner City Kids are interested. Maybe a little bit more in football. But not basketball for some reason. Maybe the opportunities to just hang out with friends. Play a plethora of video games etc. Maybe some are just interested in making a little $ with a part time job. I don’t have the answer. But i Do Know that SH has Jr an Sr level athletes walking the halls who could make the Hill a tough opponent as usual. Apparently it’s trickled into the Middle Schools as Well. They need to hire a Coach who can “change the culture” from grade school up through Middle.
Otherwise SH is going to continue to see these results for the not so seeable future I fear.

The Question is WHY. It’s the only inner City school in JC. You cannot tell me they don’t have the athletes. They Always have great athletes. And lots of them since Spurrier’s time there. Heck their freshman team usually is better than a lot of 1A and 2A complete teams. I’m totally shocked. Especially in Basketball.

Why does ETSU's coach's kid go to DB instead of the hill kinda a slap in the face to the JC

This has already been answered in another thread.  The Hill didn't have a coach in place back in the offseason when Oliver was looking for a place to play, so he chose D-B.

I’m fairly certain his younger son goes to university middle and is pretty talented as well.

This is accurate as well from my understanding.  The younger brother is in the Johnson City school system and is expected to play for the Hill.

I think he would be better off coming over to Kingsport. I'm not sure if the head coach at SH is going to work out.

The younger Oliver kid will be at Science Hill next year.

Science Hill seems to be playing most opponents close for the majority of their games and then opponents are pulling away in the final few min to win. Toppers are young and they don’t have much size. They lost their top 3-4 scorers from last years team. Everyone who has close connections to the program knew this year was going to be rough. Higgins knew it was going to be difficult.

What happened to the previous basketball coach at Science Hill?

    • Sorry Barn. I wasn’t specific enough. It seems I’m always protecting the principal at 825. My interactions with her have been extremely positive, but very limited. With all the other stories being told, I’m confident there are other sides I am not aware of. Regardless, there are lots of decent people earning good checks up there. Maybe too good, which explains why no one is willing to speak up. My beef is with the poor communication among the athletic programs and with the administration. Seven years ago the poor communication led to my son missing graduation due to a sporting event that was planned months before. I chalked it up to the system being totally shocked that the baseball team made it out of their district, and our then AD was a football coach. Maybe they were surprised and did not plan appropriately. That was more palatable than they just didn’t give a crap. Déjà vu, seven years later, same thing. Different administration, but same result.  Maybe in seven more years, it will actually be “about the kids”. They should do better.
    • That's a fair line. But if it's not over, that's a big problem.
    • RR, you think that changes this year, or at least improves? I know they had a couple of talented young receivers last year that made some plays later in the year. Defensive back was a struggle against any team that was above average at throwing the ball.
    • You would think they got a bunch of interest
    • You would think with football just three months away more would be talking. There's only so much a person can say about someone allowing the field to get painted without asking their boss who would have said ((((((((  ALE NO ))))))))) or all the other BULLS#!T they've done as they lead Maryville High into the new age of WOKE in a conversative town. I'm ready for some football news without hearing something coming out of 825 that Power Munger has done to cap off the week.
