Interesting take:

Agreed. The punishment at all levels of wrestling should be a substantial loss of team points and removal of the athletes name from the tournament bracket. He forfeited and was still listed as placing and having AA.

Just curious, would you also feel there should be a "substantial loss of team points and removal of (his) name from the bracket" if he snapped his leg in half and couldn't continue?

the loss does not define his legacy. he is still one of the GOAT’s of NCAA/Amateur wrestling. It’s been an absolute honor watching him compete. It’s impossible to  come to a realistic opinion on this without knowing the details. You have to remember, last year he wrestled on 2 bum knees, with no ACL’s. Something we never would’ve known had Tom not told him to talk about it in his post match interview. That in itself proves to me that he would keep going no matter what, even if he was hurt. The fact that he lost, if he really was hurt, means there was no longer a reason to risk potential permanent damage. If the team title depended on it, i fully believe he would’ve kept going. But with going through the consolations meaning nothing more than just that, a consolation prize, for a guy who is going to go down as one of the greatest EVER, i don’t think it’s worth the risk. I get that kids look up to him, but that’s not a reason to risk potential permanent or career ending injury, if he was indeed hurt. And even if he wasn’t, who knows what kind of mental toll that loss took on him. So again i say, without knowing the entire story from his mouth or Tom Brands, you shouldn’t be bashing or calling out a kid who has done an astronomical amount for this sport in this country, just because you think he should’ve kept going for whatever reason. Especially without knowing what’s going on behind the scenes.
